This morning when trying to access several websites that I normally access daily with no problem including this one I am getting the following message. This happens even when I switch to a different browser.

When I switch to my Thai VPN all works OK. Any ideas why this is happening.

Which one?

Does the address start with http or https?

An example could help.

Thai VPN

You use a VPN to generate another Thai IP address?

Sometimes the root cause is a wrong date/time on your device.

Have you checked?

Click on the right arrow on top right to see more details and tell what it says.

Just type this in GOOGLE : Access Denied

Also useless. Where do you see "Access denied"?

"Isn't secure" is the keyword.

Useless statement which has nothing to do with the OPs problem.
Completely different item.

The OP has a technical problem with his device/browser/"addon"/"security SW" whatever.

It could be related to a blocked website actually. If their ISP is dns hijacking to block a website the browser certificate authority will report it as untrustworthy/insecure. Similarly if an authentication server is down, a certificate expires, or they just use http instead of https this could lead to website issues like this. Of course it could be a client-side issue as well like incorrect date/time, antivirus complications, etc.

They haven't really given us enough info to fully troubleshoot but based on it affecting a lot of sites and being alleviated by a VPN connection - if they haven't recently had any changes (new programs, new network, etc) I'd wait a day and see if it's just an ISP hiccup.

It is now coming up with the following on several sites but again works OK with VPN

Tell us more about your network. Is it a home network? Do you own it? Is there a captive portal to log in? Which ISP do you use? That sort of thing.

Another client-side troubleshooting step, you can try manually setting your dns to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and see if bypassing the ISP's dns solves the problem.

If you're using a separate antivirus program make sure to turn any "scan ssl" type settings off and test if that fixes the problem.

At least a proof that it is no unsecure website nor being blocked intentionally.

Have you checked date/time on your device as suggested?

I have date time correct. I am using TMN network from home on my own private Acer laptop. I only use Microsoft Edge antivirus. I am over 80 years old so find  trying to solve this problem quite stressful but at least I can operate OK using VPN to Thailand/ Uk depending on which site I am visiting.

What puzzles me is that it might work OK on a site a couple of time and then on that same site I will then get the warning.

A very helpful answer, which immediately solves the problem described! Congratulations for infallibility!

Congratulations for the 2 most useless posts in the thread ......

> CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID

something is messing with the SSL encryption.

Either the internet provider is trying to hijack the httpS traffic, or some program (possibly malicious, sometimes it is an antivirus) messed up the embedded list of SSL certificate authorities in your browser or/and operating system.

Sometimes it is the wrong time and date - e.g. if the SSL certificate is issued in year 2022 but you have year 2010 set on the computer then the certificate is treated as invalid because your computer sees it as "not issued yet". But this seems to be not your case.

Try to use a different browser.

Thanks for all the suggestions / ideas but I do not understand why all is OK when I am using VPN linked to the UK or Thailand. Although it is a little slower I think I will keep this on now all the time.

When you use most vpn programs you bypass your isp's dns automatically along with most of their other filtering methods. They just see an encrypted connection come from your ip and go to the vpn server's ip, your vpn provider then handles everything else.

The fact that your vpn fixes the problem suggests that the problem takes place somewhere after the vpn is in the mix (i.e. your network or further down the line with your ISP). The first step as I said before should be bypassing your isp's dns in favor of something like google's. Here is a guide. If that fixes things then you would know it's a problem with your isp's dns.

That's usually the problem.

"Easy Understanding of Web Protocols: HTTP and HTTPS"

"HTTPS  is the secured version of HTTP for confidential and private sharing of sensitive user data."
