Recommendations for counsellor and psychiatrist in bangkok

Looking for a psychiatrist and a counsellor for a friend who has abused drugs for the past 3 years.
Physically he is ok now after 2 months of cold turkey but mentally he is not.

Anyone had any experience or recommendations please feel free to share thanks!

Bnh has good psychiatrist who will recommend a good counsellor

Price is not as bad as people think.  Been seeing psychiatrist there for 10 years. Military retirement.

 

Allyou need do is contact bnh and book an appointment

There is a great cultural divide no matter how educated abroad a Thai counselor is. There are probably three foreign therapists in BK: Lighthouse https://www.psychologistbangkok.com. Bangkok Counselling Service https://www.bangkokcounsellingservice.com/. Bangkok Psychology https://www.bangkokpsychology.com/team.html. New Counselling Service https://ncsbkk.com/ncs/ has been recommended personally to me.

 

IMO, you might also want to watch the new four-part Netflix series, How to Change Your Mind.

Just a question? Is he perhaps a Veteran of a Military branch.  If so he might qualify through the VA program by registering in the Philippines which can be done online, and then once accepted can obtain services here in Thailand. If not then BNH as another poster mentioned has a good program.

As a Veteran who lives in the Philippines, you are generally entitled to the same VA benefits as those living in the United States. You can visit the VA Manila Regional Benefit Office and the VA Manila Outpatient Clinic for benefit assistance needs and for limited healthcare treatment for service connected conditions. The regional office and the outpatient clinic are located in the same building. The Manila benefits fact sheet provides a list of the healthcare services provided by the VA Manila Outpatient Clinic.

Your exactly right it is not the same as being treated in the Philippines.  It is where I registered through the office there and obtained my FMP benefits for a service connected disability, and how I obtain services here in Thailand.  Thank you for the correction, but you still can be treated here in Thailand based upon being a Veteran who qualifies.

As to counsellor mine is 3500 for an hour but you may be able to find cheaper.

Psychiatrist can help find reasonable counsellor or may do it himself.

My friend went for his appointment today at bnh, came out the room within 10mins. Got prescribed with only 2 meds, told to come back 3 weeks later. 
He told me the doctor wasnt even concern nor showed interest. Quite disappointed with their service, will not go there the next time

Again, I recommend Dr. Pichai at Bumrungrad for any needed medication - he is one of only a few doctors in Thailand specifically trained in addiction psychiatry. If as I suspect the doctor he saw was not, there is chance what was prescribed might be counterproductive. 

 

Aldo strongly recommend he see a (Western) counsellor with experience with addiction disorders. There are several in Bangkok and links already given

 

Just seeing random Thai psychiatrists is a bad idea and could well make matters worse.
