I've got Outlook Express on my new laptop - how do I tranfer all my files from my old one to the new one?

Is there a better option than Outlook Express?

Can I download Thunderbird?

Can I tranfer the files from Outlook?

To Export messages try :

File > Export > Messages

Then to import :

File > Import > Messages

HI Mick, I'm confused - where does this export thre messages to?

It says Microsoft Outlook, what's that and how do I get them onto my laptop?

Neeraman, it was an easy download and installation for me, and it took me through the steps for moving the old mail to Thunderbird. I am sure you will be very happy with it once you are up and running.

Download and install Thunderbird. It will ask during install if you want to import everything from Outlook. Click "yes" and it will do the work in seconds.

Thanks a lot. Can I imoprt it even though it's on another computer? Doesn't make sense to me, but I know very little.

I did this once. Easiest way is to install Thunderbird on the other computer, import everything from outlook express, then use Mozbackup to backup Thunderbird and move the backup file to the other computer where you have Thunderbird installed already and restore the backup.

It's easier than it sounds.

I have 17 pop3 accounts on mine at the moment.

And I have about 12 coming from 5 different servers nicely filtered to place in the right pidgeon holes (mailboxes). Thaivisa has it's own folder. :o The filters in Thunderbird is a very useful feature.

I have it now and it asked me if I wanted to imort from Outlook - I said yes but it hasn't done it. Maybe I have to restart?

Try 'tools/import'

Thanks for those tips on importing.

I am in the process up moving the Thunderbird from Eudora,

complete with a large amount of archived business mail.

You must have a lot of different identities :o
