POLICE arrested three suspects on trademark counterfeiting charges in a raid on a single-storey house in Pathum Thani province where unbranded monosodium glutamate (MSG) food additive was found falsely-labelled under a well-known brand, Sanook.com said Wednesday (July 27).

Altogether 54,445 items separated into 21 categories were seized during the raid and aside from the unbranded MSG these included bags, packages and cartons stamped with the Ajinomoto brand and other equipment.

Charged with holding a product for sale under a counterfeit trademark, name, images and text were Mr. Jatupol (surname withheld), 30, Ms. Phakhon (surname withheld), 43 and Mrs. Myad (surname withheld), 57.

saying you have fake MSG is like saying you have fake salt, It's still salt.

Unfortunately for your astute observation, nowhere was "fake MSG" reported.

Incidentally, "fake MSG" would not be MSG if it were fake and "fake salt" would not be salt, either.

fake in this context means fake brand, I thought that was obvious.

No, it would have been obvious if you'd written "fake brand" but you didn't.

But is it? Could be a percentage and some rather unhealthy padding!
