RTP accepts that mass shootings are not just a US thing: Run-Hide-Fight advice from FBI

Thai Rath reported the comments of the Royal Thai police spokesman yesterday regarding "active shooter" events.

Pol Col Siriwat Deephor acknowledged that such events were not just a US phenomenon. It could happen in Thailand.

He pointed to the Terminal 21 shootings in Korat in February 2020 as an example.

Consequently Thais should know what to do if a gunman goes on the rampage.

To train Thais he pointed to FBI advice in the US that refers to "Run - Hide - Fight".

The strategies involved in helping people survive an "active shooter attack" can be found here in a video.

https://www.fbi.gov/about/partnerships/office-of-partner-engagement/active-shooter-resources

The FBI says on the site: "Learning these principles now will prepare and empower you to put them into practice - and survive - should the unthinkable happen".

Even in Thailand.

I am in the sticks.   Mass murder with a gun this year.  Covered here?  nope.  English story? nope.  People talk about much?  not here.  Thai friend sent me the story, then other Thais said, "oh, yea.

  • Personally, what happens in the USA could never happen here. One is a so called Developed nation but most of the adults are on drugs either legal or illegal.  66% are on prescription drugs.

FBI, Yes follow them as they know a lot, as they had Hunter Biden's laptop for years and they still don't know what to do with it. Maybe in 25 years we will know something. who put the I in the FBI?

To train Thais we need laws that provide certain penalties for those who commit crimes and not the loophole of the "Kototh" and the "Way", but even a severity that is applied in case of serious crimes.

As long as getting an amphetamine is considered more serious than murder, I see no way out.

I think the packet of corn flakes in my cupboard also has instructions on what to do in mass shootings.

I'll post it to Thailand RTP

It has happened in Thailand. But, anyway, nice of him to acknowledge that.

FBI Advice ….. Why would you take advice from a group that fail following their own advice 555555

There isn't one in any country.

It is possible that a mass shooting can and has occurred in Thailand but they will never see a pattern of them . There isn't a cult machine gun loving community that conflates its love of assault rifles with racial animus and grievance, backed by religion. Furthermore, Thailand is blessed not have the Murdoch press pouring gasoline onto the fire.

Difference between USA and Thailand is that in USA just about everyone has a gun and millions have more than one.

This definitely predisposes the risk of any kind of shooting frenzy or otherwise in USA and very much less likely in Thailand.

Have you any idea how many illegal guns, never mind legal ones, are in Thailand?

No!

Neither do I or anybody else!

How many reports about Thai school kids being shot in school gun violence have you read about in the last five days?

Too many!

I didn't even know the Thai Police knew what FBI is.

I thought they would recommend the Thai way, stop, bent over, get <deleted>, be silent, don't make a problem ????????????

Your comment isn't comparable to Thailand with USA.

Firstly, there are four times as many people in USA,

Secondly, there are far more guns in the hands of people that ARE legal in USA as well as yet more illegally owned; as I understand it, about 300 million guns out there in the public sector

You are right, I don't know how many illegal guns in Thailand and neither do the Authorities know! But I think it is very unlikely that illegally owned guns in Thailand amounts to millions!

Mass shootings in Thailand are extremely rare, in USA not so - and this is to do with the gun laws that allow just about anybody to own one or even more!

The Thailand way is Fight-Run-Hide.

Mass shootings in Thailand have little resemblance to that in the US.

Yes, there are far too many shootings here, but they are mainly domestic, road rage or drug or gang related.

The only one I can think of that follows the American model is the soldier who killed about 16 in a Korat department store  a few years back. (mentioned in the article)

Another attention seeker looking for a step up the ladder by sensationalizing something unnecessarily.

What a joke.

There hasn't been a mass shooter events in my home nation for 30 years. Why? Because the government in the interest of public safety and oh what else was it ??? ... oh yes sanity .... banned all semi and automatic weapons and placed an amnesty on handing them in as well as hefty fines and jail for anyone who kept one.

Hence zero, yes zero mass shootings since.

I'm sure it will make some here mad as heck but as a reasonably sane person I am loathe to take any, I repeat any American advice about guns, gun death, and prevention.

Taking advice and suggestions from American law enforcement practices?

Oh dear.

I think I can count about six this year without searching.  IMO, not "extremely rare".

Another poster brought up a good point, USUALLY it's people shooting people they know.  In America, they are trying to get some high numbers to send a message or become infamous or something ridiculous.  But murder is murder, and one missile from Russia kills hundreds and hundreds and we just say "oh that's war, not same same."

and in China and N. Korea and the Philippines, mass murder simply isn't something people want to talk about......Americans like talking about it.  Thais, nope.

Not without a work permit.

Taking jobs away from RTP ????

The FBI is the last agency that I would want to receive advice from. The FBI is a total failure at preventing shooting deaths. They are not the first responders to mass shootings anyway. That would be local police and the local SWAT team. Like in Texas.

Thailand shouldn't be taking any advice from The Mild Bunch.

I think it has more to do with the people's mental state.

I an't think of any, after searching.

Scotland had one mass shooting. After, we banned guns and haven't had another since, it's decades now. The US should follow our wisdom, it's not rocket science.

Weren't guns also banned in Scotland BEFORE that mass shooting ?
