Insurance, again

Recommended Posts

I am confused about my status.

I am on a retirement  extension to a visa issued in my home country 12 years ago (OA)?

Does this  mean I am still on an OA?

My one year extension is due in December.

Do I need medical insurance this year?

Thank you for any clarification

Unless you have changed the basis of your extension along the way then, yes.

The fact that you don't seem to have been pressed, on the question of insurance, suggests that is not high on the agenda of your Immigration office. That, or they may have grand-fathered you in and they only apply the insurance requirements to new O-A applications.

No grandfathering, been here going on seven years and needed the insurance since the day they started

If you didn't need it last year I can't see why you'd need it this year. If they do decide to press you on it you can go to an agent to sort it, cheaper than insurance

Or just let it lapse and get a Non 'O' based visa/extension.

Phuket  immigration office has grandfathered if the non O-A was obtained previously prior to insurance requirement.

Exactly unless using an agent apparently

I'm not aware of any agents able to kill off a non O-A and subsequently obtain a non O retirement.

Many years ago agents could send passports to border.

Be no no now imo.

yeah we discussed this before, a friend was able to circumvent the insurance requirement, pretty sure someone else also was able to on the same thread
