As, to my knowledge, the Mae Sai-Tachilek border is still closed, what are my best options to do a border run?

I was thinking of travelling to Chiang Khong and crossing over to Laos there and re-enter Thailand again.

 

Are there any cheaper / easier options ?

As if Chiang Khong is 1000 miles away? How much cheaper does it have to be? Just go there, complete the run and end of the story.
