Thailand’s Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa has ordered park officials to track down a western tourist who was seen, in a widely-shared online post, with a bunch of parrot fish he allegedly caught in the seas off Phi-Phi Leh Island in Hat Noppharat Thara – Mu Ko Phi National Park in the southern province of Krabi.

 

The tourist reportedly checked out of his hotel in haste on Wednesday, after the picture of him with the fish went viral on social media. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

 

Ratchada Suriyakul Na Ayutthaya, director-general of the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department, told Thai PBS today (Friday) that a complaint has already been filed with the police, seeking their help in tracking down the perpetrator and the owner of the boat, which was hired by the tourist for the fishing trip.

 

He said that he has also sought cooperation from tourist and immigration police in finding the tourist.

Technically the captain of the vessel is responsible for what is going on. If he took a tourist on an illegal fishing trip he is the culprit not the tourist just because he is a foreigner.

Again another sign of Xenophoby! I don't think it's that way, and with dual pricing etc that they will attract more tourists.. on the contrary.. 

It makes me think at huge fine if you were smoking Electronic cigarette although I saw thais vaping almost every day.. Now they even sell canabis, not only CBD, but the whole canabis with THT in the food! 

Before, it was a crime passible to prison to use that.. not so long ago in Thailand..!

While I agree that5 ILLEHAL fishing will and can the local fish and possibly harm the environment in the long run.

I find it overly excessive when we have the RTP openly stating that they will NOR ENFORVE the law on Seat Beltsd properly A LAW THAT CAN SAVE HUMAN lives, yet they pursue a Foreigner who was fishing with a THAI Boat owner and Captain

Correct if the guy hired a boat and operator  to take him fishing he is not to know the area in question was out of bonds for such activity. The real issue is why did the boat operator take him to a restricted area for fishing.

What’s really interesting to me is the boat captain who knows all the rules and regulations on fishing takes a tourist to fish The tourist go fishing catches some fish and now they’re after him why wouldn’t they just arrest the vo captain for lack of knowledge of where he could take a tourist to fish this is just amazing to me TIT
