Not for the first time my Firefox bookmarks have just disappeared.

And it seems to be Firefox which is zapping them.

I found a good copy in bookmarks backups and copied and pasted it into bookmarks in the (only) profile directory.

Reopened Firefox and they're gone again and the last modified stamp on the bookmarks file shows that very minute I reopened Firefox.

Version is 2.0.0.1

I've never lost my bookmarks, but have noticed that my drop-down menu of recently visited websites has cleared itself inexplicably in version 2.0.0.4.

Have you tried importing the bookmark copy instead of copying it, and if so does it still disappear?

Try the latest version 2.0.0.4.

This I have done , but are you suggesting this was a known "feature" of my previous version ?

This happened to me too , but there is an "erase private date" function in FF plus other cleanup tools I use do this so I never paid it no never mind.

The "import" function offers a choice of IE or Opera bookmarks to import. How do you import backups ?

Bookmarks => Organize Bookmarks opens your registered bookmarks in new tab.

From this tab you can import bookmarks from a back-up file via File => Import which will now give you the option "From file".

Strange problem. Anyway another option is to use the FEBE exention which auto backs up your entire FF profile, including bookmarks, at user defined intervals.

And by the way, the Foxmarks' add-on which is meant to synchronise your bookmarks will only do a certain number and then stops. So if you think all your bookmarks are backed up, they're not, if you have a large number as I have.
