NACC will be asked to probe the conduct of Thailand’s Election Commission

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) will be asked to investigate the conduct of the Election Commission (EC) over its rejection of Srisuwan Janya’s petition, seeking a ruling from the Constitutional Court over the term in office of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

 

Political activist Srisuwan Janya said today (Tuesday) that he does not understand why the EC dragged its feet, taking 15 days to make its decision and only doing so after a similar petition was submitted to House Speaker Chuan Leekpai by the opposition parties.

 

The EC claimed that, since the opposition had submitted a similar petition to the House Speaker, there was no need for it to consider Srisuwan’s.

No doubt will be found to be completely  above reproach as all the brown envelopes had expertly been disguised as baskets of fruit from well wishers.

The democratic processes don't seem to be working properly anymore because some institutions that should be independent are no longer fully independent and are no doing their actual job of ensuring the democratic processes.

Maybe there should be a retrospective 30 years prison sentence for anyone found to have committed corruption during office. Might make some of these people more honest now knowing the next government or the one after may chuck them in clink

This will be an interesting test for NACC.

NACC Strategy Phase 3 (2017-2021) states in part in its Mission:

“To create a culture which does not tolerate corruption, to enhance good governance in integrative administration of the country, and to reform the entire anti-corruption regime to equal the international standards.” http://anticorruption.mot.go.th

 

Frankly, "good governance" should lead to the dissolution of the EC and an elected Constitutional Court by the House only.

Another investigation that's going nowhere.
