Mountain B club owner selling up after devastating fire that killed 20

The Land upon which the Building stood was only rented as I understood, and the Building being Illegal, surely cannot be sold.

There'd be a lease for the rented land, leases can be sold on.

The part of the building that was illegally added on has been destroyed by the fire, there's nothing to stop the rest from being sold, it's just a construction now, not an illegal business.

What is he actually selling , it was reported that the building was on rented land, and who is going to buy a burnt out building, in which so many people died and were injured. regards

  • Maybe I am a bit slow, but what is the owner selling ? The burnt out shell of what was once a pub/nightclub. And the op show a photo of a not burnt out, completely different  property. Also, not sure

  • Obviously some of the real investors want a return on the money now that the place is no more and given Thai superstitions, never will be anymore.

Yes indeed, and my thought as well - ghosts!! (with respect)

Why not clear the area and establish a memorial garden?

Who's going to pay for that?  Perhaps the owner of the private land wants to continue doing what he wants to do with it, he wasn't responsible for the fire.

You seem a bit miffed he was released on bail.

Do you think the courts/judge/legal system should  forgo the whole "innocent until proven guilty" mantra and just lock him up and throw away the key ?

It's amazing how many posters here do think that!

Takes the term fire sale to a new level.

That your term, no one else has used it.

Being remanded in custody until trial isn't unusual. In this case, to prevent absconding, also not unusual in Thailand.

Neither is bail unusual.  Defendants appearing in court for their cases isn't unusual, either.

"...absconding, also not unusual in Thailand".

What country are you from or is that just a Thai trait?

I expect the owner needs to get some money for it.

The decision also means almost 60 staff will be out of a job.

The outcome of the fire brought on by incompetence of the owners means 60 staff will be out of work.

Not an attractive venue with it's history and assigned superstition.

Maybe not, but a real hive of activity for lottery numbers I would suspect

It's difficult to see the front entrance in that photo,  however the owner is obviously selling a building that has been destroyed by fire including the land that it sits on which is probably quite valuable.

As for the 60 employees,  that I suspect is the total number of employees from bar staff, waiters,  stage group, doorman, cleaners, and others .... and obviously they all work different shifts.

I hope you and others can understand this.

It would seem to me that you didn't fully understand the article. It is the restaurant at the front of the night club that is for sale & in the photograph.

A 27 year old male has now succumbed to his injuries sustained at Mountain B bring the total to 21 dead

I haven't made a comparison with another country, so where I come from is irrelevant. I live in Thailand now anyway.

How many more I wonder. Meanwhile the front man is out on bail I think and the real investors are wanting some money back by selling the restaurant. Sick bar stewards.

Before the weekend it was reported that 9 patients were on intubators, so now 7.
