webfact
BANGKOK, (TNA) – Police were investigating a clash between students of Pathumwan Institute of Technology and Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok's Uthenthawai Campus while the Bangkok police chief invited their representatives to discuss long-term solutions to their long-standing conflict. About 60 students ran from their Pathumwan Institute of Technology towards about 50 students from Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok's Uthenthawai Campus who rushed down from the elevated Skywalk over Pathumwan intersection. They met on the ground in front of Nimibutr building in the compound of the National Stadium and first exchanged verbal attacks and challenges. Then they started a fight. Police were deployed at the scene but could not prevent the brawl. bradiston
This just seems a feature of these schools. The heads of the various schools appear to do nothing, nor the education ministry or department of education. What is it? An accepted part of college education? Idiot rivalries? Public brawling? What an image to convey.
OneMoreFarang
Put them all individually in cages to fight each other.
swm59nj
Good the police chief got involved. But I think the issue has gotten past mediation. The ones that are committing the violence should be locked up.

It's so strange, because Thai education supposedly has a reputation of being super-strict. It seems that the strictness is more around respecting seniors and following cultural norms, uniform, etc.. Then when it comes to actual behaviour the students seem to be allowed to run riot and the "don't offend anyone or make them feel bad" suddenly comes into play. It makes me worried about the future of Thailand. If the youth continue to demand more "rights", but fail to be given more responsibility, where is it going to end? Some sort of child-led dystopia perhaps...

Impressive.

I wouldn't employ graduates from either of these schools for obvious reasons plus it's well known some of the lecturers push these kids to fight and to continue the fight if they ever come across even one of the opposite school graduates later in life, for the honour of their school. No job from me. Edited August 27, 2022 by scorecard

Put the two school directors in a room and tell them if it happens again they're both out of a job. 1

It seems bizarre that the schools are not being held directly responsible and made to stop it, or face further consequences. But this is the home of "what can you do?".
