snoop1130 Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Deputy Interior Minister Nipon Boonyamanee has resigned from his post to face trial in the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases on a charge of malfeasance, for his refusal to pay 51 million baht for the purchase of two multi-purpose trucks by Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) back in 2013. Nipon reported to the court this morning to acknowledge the charge, filed against him by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). While insisting that he was not under pressure to resign, he said he had already informed suspended Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha about his decision to quit the cabinet, so he can concentrate on the trial and to avoid criticism if he stayed on. tomacht8 Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 2013? That's nine years ago. snail's pace 1
Jerno Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Why are they digging up something like this which happened 9 years ago?
AsianAtHeart Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 I don't understand this. It seems like 51 million baht for two trucks would be a corrupt amount of money--could two trucks have been worth that? If he refused to pay that amount for the trucks, he would then have been refusing to be party to said corruption. Is he now being penalized for integrity? 1

He's very likely just <deleted> off somone upstairs. It's the same in Xi ruled China. Corruption is allowed, because it's a great weapon when a strongman needs to eliminate personal threats.

I *think* they mean he tried to not pay at all. And that was the jacked price, but someone didn't get their share, because he didn't pay so... It's Thailand it's cray-cray.
mikebell Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 I was once rebuked on this forum for saying the wheels of Thai Justice grind exceedingly slowly (if at all.) There must be a huge backlog of cases where appeals and other delays are used to put the the accused to the back of the queue. LOL = Land of Lawyers.
