People are getting stupid-er or am I just getting older/wiser?

Full disclosure

Topic is not about Thais per se

It includes all people on Earth..

Observing life and what not, long hours in the wilds and also more mainstream parts of the internet, I have noticed the level of stupidity has increased exponentially.

People cannot answer simple questions such as 'Where is the Panama canal'. ???????????????? Or where is the Queen of England from..????

Not to mention all the dare-devil type videos going on with disastrous results

Someone could argue that they were there all along but the internet flushed them out.

Legit view but I believe ppl have become way more stupid.

I have my own theories as to why but I will leave it at that for now

Don't know what they teach in schools anymore, but they sure are leaving out much of what I learned.   Along with changing things a bit, to fit their agenda.

From history to science, seems it's being rewritten.  Some good, most not.

Remember when vaccines used to prevent illnesses ?  Now they just help immune system fight them.   Changed that one so big pharma could avoid lawsuits.

UN establish to prevent wars, now they endorse and supply both sides.

All about the $$$$ ... the masses have become mushrooms, feed 'em sh!t and keep them in the dark.

Let's leave politics out of it it for the mo.

This being said, the elites love dum<deleted>.

As long as they can be trained to perform various technical tasks..

The robot/AI takeover of said tasks will make most humans obsolete.

Time to think without instantaneous reaction is the key. I may not be getting any wiser but I do have more time to ponder.????

The changes can't be accomplished without political influence & approval.

The puppets & puppeteers profiting from the changes.  Create distractions, and they can do anything.

Just look at the anti Yank posts in this thread (member ignored already), as they keep the division going, but they are united in stealing all the money & life out of the masses.

Which are now too dumb to realize anything it seems.  Cower & comply is the future.  The last decade should have opened everyone's eye, but instead, they fell for it all, hook, line & sinker.

It really is damn embarrassing.

It depends on how you define intelligence or knowledge. Nowadays, I dont need to have great bodies of knowledge committed to memory, I just need to know where to find it.

Years ago a trade/profession was essentially paying someone who had acquired knowledge in a certain field. Nowadays that knowledge is available to everyone.

I happen to know where the panama canal is, but if I don't, am I stupid or just have no need for that knowledge. If I start shipping goods from Asia to Europe then that knowledge would probably benefit me, otherwise not.

The ability to find, process, filter information is probably a more relevant measure of intelligence. I know that cleaning my teeth stops decay, I have no need to know who invented the toothbrush.

Computers/internet has alot to answer for, both good and bad.

Far too much reliance on technology these days.Lose power(elec) and many would be totally lost.

Yes I like fixing my own cars as well. The knowledge of which you speak has always been available. It just depends on how much time one is prepared to devote to finding it.

We don't seek out an "expert" because he has more knowledge than us but because he has more experience. Not the same.

Not knowing these facts has nothing to do with being wise or stupid.

I am more concerned with i.e. the lady yesterday who used a calculator to add up 1000 + 750. And obviously there are many of them.

I am not sure how much difference it makes but in part I blame the stupid woke inclusive activism. Now some universities make inclusivity their main reason to exist. It's not anymore about teaching math or science it's about crazy political correctness, 100 different pronounces and all that <deleted>.

And obviously people must be hired because they are part of a minority group. If (especially large) companies have a candidate who is trans and black and a lesbian then that person has 100 points advantage compared to that straight white male candidate. Qualification? Experience? Who cares, as long as they can prove that they support inclusivity etc. It's crazy and it's getting worse.

And for the record: I am fine if black and trans and lesbians and whatever are hired. But they should be hired because of their qualification and not some woke attribute.

Doesn't experience ultimately translate to or become knowledge. If a guy fixes 100 cars and gains the experience, then writes a book "how to fix a car", his experience has been passed on as knowledge, And that knowledge is then available to you or me.

Intelligence is well defined, since a long time, there is no need to define it again.

And knowledge is a lot more than looking up facts one by one. I.e. a successful engineer must know many things by heart to be able to imagine and realize solutions. A medical doctor need to know many details of the human body to understand how it works and what might be wrong.

Facts, or what some people claim are facts, are available to everybody. Knowledge is not. And just because someone on twitter or fb or YouTube tells us some "facts" that doesn't mean this information is correct.

But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.

^ But not everybody writes a book.

A Haynes manual will tell you how to fix a car. But not necessarily what to fix.

The getting paid for experience bit is about how much time the payer wishes to spend to accumulate said knowledge.

Many people hire a builder to build them a house but all the house building knowledge is supposedly available to all.

Since most of the younger generation spend most of their time on Tik-Tok it is hardly surprising that they are as thick as two short planks.

If it isnt on Tik-Tok or similar app then they have no idea.

Just out of interest who, on this platform remember when you couldnt use a calculator in school exams? (I was going to say how many can use a slide rule but I know it wouldnt be very many at all).

I think you are right.. the main thing in any knowledge is forward thinking... As my name states........ EG dont build on sand. Or put a window in with out support above. Look before you leap... Even the simplest things these days we ask why?

I heard about that movie only this year and because it was highly recommended I watched it. Great!

It's supposed to play 500 years in the future (from when it was created). Now I got the impression that it too not even 10 years. Amazing, and sad at the same time.

Here is the opening scene, also very relevant for this thread.

I used to ‘help’ the assistants at 7/11 by offering a 1000 baht note together with 11.75 baht for an 811.75 baht purchase.

I’ve now learned this is a total waste of time. Problem is I nearly have 1 million baht in 25 and 50 satang coins.

Have to agree with your points, and decades ago, things were discussed around the dinner table and so on, and young ones absorbed the information and knowledge therein, however now I have yet to see a family in a restaurant actually talking to one another, all of them being on their mobile phones or the like, and it makes me wonder what the forthcoming generation will actually be like.

As for your question about "when you couldn't school exams", well I remember it well and even in the 60s when I was taking my electrical engineering exams, we were only allowed to use slide rules, not that I would know how to use one these days!!!

However just as an aside, it's not just the younger generation, because I have friends around my age (in their 70s) who are gullible enough to believe and repeat rubbish that they read on various sites, and the Covid/vaccination/masks information they have forwarded makes me wonder if they were just stupid in the first place, or if they learned how to be that way over the years??

You maybe getting wiser and I do believe a lot of people are getting dumber,

all they want to know is what the favourite movie/soap star is upto, and over

use of the smartphone ,on Farcebook , TikToc , they cannot eat until they have

taken a picture of their food, it would be great if they used their devices to gain

knowledge , but they don't, they are living in their own little World ,
