perhaps once outside Russia they will get the real picture of the evil that their government is up to

Perfect timing once again, as Russia and Putin declare mobilization and threaten the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

It will take some time for the industry to make a full recovery,...!?!?

Hm,.. and that might last longer than they think.

They make it so difficult for tourists and expats to get a visa that many might look for other places. Some of my European friends have already switched Thailand for Spain or Portugal !!!

As for the Russians?,.. Putin has announced this morning that Russia will in-store a partial military draft !!! that'll take away a lot of potential tourists away of Thailand !

Good Morning,

AN ABSOLUTE SHAME THAILAND !!

meanwhile people are being oppressed and killed and tortured in Ukraine and your supporting Russia inviting tourist.

not to mention chartering planes to circumvent what the major airlines are NOT !! DOING !! SHAMEFUL !!

it’s very true what they say it’s all about Baht !! SAD !!

Not sending any royalty to Queen Elizabeths Funeral ,   not condemning Myanmar's Military for killing innocent school children ,   this is what you get, not with a league of gentlemen,  but with a league of authoritarian regimes .

Quite right. Thailand would invite Satan himself for a nice vacation if he paid enough.

This could backfire on TAT. They could come and declare refugee status and Thailand would have to feed and house them. Most popular google search from parts of Russia yesterday was "how can l leave Russia".

Ah TAT, the greatest of all the limbo dancers, there is no bar too low for them to shimmy under.

Don't think they were even invited.

there will always be work for the young beauties.

Australia won't stop tourism either.

The real question to ask is how will the Russian Tourists pay for their transactions whilst here when many of their credit cards are blocked worldwide.

Scum Putin will be conscripting them soon anyway.

Yes, they sure are. Unfortunately for them, they live in a country with an evil dictator, supported by a clan of billionaire kleptocrats who don't give a hoot how they make their money.

They may have to have a rethink on this one, those who are still able to travel will be off to the front line receiving some of the amo that their compatriots left behind before their “regrouping”

Just tell the Russians to f off, like the rest of the civilised world has done. They are not welcome here.

Who are you to determine who is and who isn’t welcome here?

At least the over 65's can travel to Pattaya for "Destry's Last Ride"...

Following Putin's declaration of annexion (fake referendum) of Ukrainian territories, news tell that russian men up to 65 yo are not allowed to buy flight tickets to go abroad.

Shame over what?

Business is business....when has something as insignificant as another war on the planet got in the way of business?

According to the Council on Foreign Relations's Global Conflict Tracker, there are currently 27 ongoing conflicts worldwide.1 Apr 2022

The conflict in Ukraine is entirely different to any other in terms of its potential and given the announcements from Putin today, the potential for escalation has increased dramatically.  Should NATO be drawn into this, as seems increasingly likely, Thailand will have to decide where its loyalty lies.  It will have to do that whilst giving due regard to its relationships with both Russia and China.

As for it being a business decision as it clearly is, once again its a bad business decision. Western tourists have been the backbone of the Thai tourist industry for many years - we were there long before the Russians, Indians and Chinese yet its those groups that Thailand has repeatedly targeted with promotions, extended visas ect. etc.

This time they are doing exactly the same, instead of putting on charter flights to Europe or the US, which would probably force the regular airlines to reduce their currently ridiculous prices and therefore enable hundreds of thousands of Western tourists to visit again, they decide to do that for the Russians.

Western economies may well be down but think what its like in Russia right now.  I'd hazard a guess that this will be a very short term project, only a limited number of Russians will be able to travel.

Long term, something Thailand doesn't seem to have the ability or brains to consider, all this is going to do is p... off Western tourists who will find alternative destinations.  Tourists are creatures of habit, once they find somewhere they like, they tend to go back time and time again.

They might also take the time to consider the feelings of their own people towards the groups they continually target. Thai people have far better relations with Westerners than any of the groups the authorities have targeted over the last few years.  How many times have you seen hotels or bars with signs outside saying 'No Russians' or 'No Indians' for example? I've seen both.  Hotel and Condo owners hate the Chinese for their trickery and multiple occupancy of rooms intended for 1 or 2 people.

So overall, in my opinion, the long term negative effects of this decision will far outweigh any short term benefits.

I tend to agree. If there was not the threat of lethal reprisals you would see so much more anti- limited military operations protests and activities in the streets of Moscow. We need to be careful not to tar everyone with the same brush. The average Russian is also a victim of Putin’s crime albeit unknowingly. Putin is the real villain here not the powerless people.

LOL, who comes to Thailand for the Pissy these days.. Only ones coming for that is the India guys. They are the only one still gullible enough to fall for the sick buffalo lines....  Or what ever the latest Thai women are spouting these days..

That's TAT's perspective. Ofcourse there are better places in Europe or Latin America for sex tourism but Thailand still trying to work out things worked for them in 90s.

Good for Thailand. Somebody has to revive its tourism industry. It won’t be cash stripped energy-free Urapeeans or mortgage-burdened Muricans. These two categories are now past their glory days.
