Popular Post AsianAtHeart
Did the boy belong to the house? It seems, according to the linked article, that he did not live there, as they suspected him of scaling a fence to get inside. The pool owners, if they had a fence, seem to have done their part to secure the facility. Of course, the sign, in Thai, saying children must be supervised, would only be directed at the parents who weren't there. Boys will be boys--which is why supervision is important. Let this serve as a reminder to parents: Teach them obedience. Also, be sure your children learn how to swim. It could save their lives.
mikebell
I entered this on line - 'children drowning in Thailand statistics' and got this - 'Each year, nearly 1,500 children in Thailand die because of drowning, or about 4 children per day on average, which is a much higher rate compared to those in developed countries such as Australia or the United States.' anchadian
Of course the child was left unsupervised: 'It was not immediately clear if the boy had been left unsupervised while the father was working and running errands and Lt. Col Kawin stated to the press that this was being reviewed'

khunpa
<deleted>!!! If you need to go somewhere, then YOUR the kid with you, instead of leaving him alone!!! Nobody else to blame than the selfish idiot of a father!
Bangkok Barry
No mention at all of the mother. Strange. Usually it's the father who is absent from the family.
RichardColeman
Surely must be more to this story. My daughter is just turned 6 and 128 cm tall (she's tall for age), BUT surely this kid could have just stood up if the pool was 1.2m ? The child being what it is, was left alone to keep himself amused.. seems the idea of going for an illicit swim backfired.
