Thai Rath reported that the Pak Chong police and rescue services were called to a U-turn on the Mitraphap Highway between KM markers 52 and 53 in the area of Mitraphap City at 1.30 pm yesterday after a collision.

A tanker trailer driven by 52 year old Wiwat had collided head on with a Toyota van carrying ten monks on the other side of the road.

The tanker was going from Rayong to Korat, the monks from Udon Thani to Nakhon Pathom.

Three other vehicles, a Mercedes and two pick-ups were also involved in the pile-up.

The driver of the van, Sirichai, died in Pak Chong Nana Hospital.

Ten people were injured.

Wiwat said that a truck carrying rocks had cut in front of him while making a U-turn and what with the rain and the slippery conditions he was unable to brake in time.

I can't make any sense out of that statement. Surely if he couldn't brake in time he would of hit the vehicle that cut in front of him?

Drive according to the prevailing conditions, as the saying goes. The media could make a new TV series for international audiences, something like "Thai Death Roads".

The driver's here are pretty ordinary.
