AN UNNAMED bank has so far not paid any compensation to the owner of a house in Pathum Thani which they seized by error on Sept. 5 when their contractor removed all the belongings, locked the gate with a padlock and put a for sale sign on it, Sanook.com said Monday (Oct. 3).

 

Mr. Ronnarong Kaewpetch, chairman of the Network to Reclaim Justice, said the couple who own this wrongfully seized house had met this bank’s officials in front of the police and demanded 2 million baht compensation which they refused to pay, saying the error was not intentional.

 

However they mentioned that some of the assets were kept in another location but others had been destroyed, such as clothes, old books, pictures and collectables, including their children’s belongings which have sentimental value and cannot be replaced.

If this was a Bank in any other part of the world they would pay up immediately to quiet their mistake but here in the alley in the smiles all they do is say it was unintentional TIT

Face......keeping them firmly entrenched in the third world!

Not intentional... Maybe this couple should go to the local branch, rob it, and when caught claim it was unintentional as they have an account at that branch and just thought they were making an ordinary withdrawal. 

Now this is a good example for the definition of Thainess. 

 

I would also be bringing charges against the "banks contractor" who removed everything and put the lock on the property. They are most likely the party that made the mistake of being at the wrong house. Banks don't generally send their staff to clear and lock the property so they would be heavily involved as well. 

Fabulous so if I cause an accident, which was unintentional as most are I don’t need to pay? Good luck with that one. The bank in question should be named and appropriately shamed! Undoubtedly when they are and there is a public outcry there will be loads of Wai-Ing and flower bouquets and fruit baskets all around.

Gob smacked. It seems banks have impunity....and that said, I wonder if the folks who were cheated out of their money by an employee at a branch of the green one (on Buakhao) at the end of last year fared.

You beat me to it, I was going to say exactly the same ????????

Smashed all the windows and destroyed the computers, it was completely unintentional as I was trying to swat a mosquito.

It was not intentional comment can only make depositors feel far from secure if there money should go missing from there account .

Seems odd. Have visited many foreclosed properties and normally the residents are still there whist the house is being sold from under them. Grim and awkward 

Disgraceful, behavior of the bank and it's employees involved in this.

Happens in the US. Think reverse mortgage.  Biggest rip off in decades and government sponsored.  Elderly are displaced daily.. 

Only difference is in the US it is done legally and with fast talking salesmen. And is not done in error, it is done on purpose.

If the defamation laws that exist here were in other countries then banks and businesses would do the same thing.

 

In Canada the headline would be. ROYAL Bank Ceases wrong house

Now, if this 'unintentional law' is indeed a thing and a law in this country, than they will have a fight on their hands, if not, the bank don'd have a leg to stand on, but TIT, and bizarre laws and rules are not unheard of in this country...

I think banks in most civilized countries would have an exhaustive system of checking before they did anything like this. Seizure of someone's home and possessions is difficult to do in most Western countries. In Thailand the laws are designed to protect the wealthy and large corporations.
