Seeing as this was a paid rally walking out sends signals buying people is not as powerful as it was before. I think Thaksin has forced the Thais in Isaan to pay more attention as he pushed it way past where it has ever been before. I seem to recall someone saying the Isaan Thais were embarrassed with Thaksin because of the extreme graft and poor quality of workmanship particularly with the airport.

Samak comes across as almost suffering from some sort of mental deficiency because he says things he absolutely should not to keep his party afloat.

I hope Samak keeps his brain dis engaged when talking about the PPP, we couldn,t ask for a better deterrent to use against

the undercover TRT and it,s leader in exile.

Looking at the size of Samak and his condition, i reckon he is more likely to drop dead or suffer serious health problems before his ambitions / cloning of the ex CEO are achieved.

His Thaksin style arrogance still needs practice.

It depends on who paid them. Some may have been paid to go but walk out when Samak appeared. Just speculation.

I doubt whether Isaan Thais in general dislike Mr. Thaksin. I have heard from a few Buri Rammers that some were influenced by hearing news reports all the time about being the bought slaves of Newin Chidchob. Hence the odd yes vote in the referendum as an expression of "we are good". Strange but possible.

Complaint laid about People's Power Party

A group of Buri Ram people have asked police to take legal action against People's Power Party (PPP) leader Samak Sundaravej, key member Newin Chidchob (TRT Banned #6) and other party executives for defying the Constitution Tribunal's ruling by vowing to continue the policies of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai party. Srimuang Wattanacheep, former president of the Buri Ram provincial administration organisation, took members of the Palang Paendin Buri Ram network to file a complaint against Samak, Newin, party spokesman Kuthep Saikrachang, and others. The network handed over cassettes and videotapes of campaign speeches made by Samak and party members during their political campaign in the province on Tuesday. Srimuang said the PPP had defied the Constitution Tribunal's ruling by promising to continue the policies of Thai Rak Thai, which was dissolved by the tribunal for electoral fraud on May 30. He said PPP executives had ignored the ruling by allowing Newin, one of the 111 Thai Rak Thai executive members banned from political activity for five years, to make a campaign speech.

In his new role as a self-styled victim it may be that Mr. Newin is actually trying to get the authorities to take action against the party.

EC to investigate former TRT and People Power Party activity in Buri Ram

The Chairman of the Election Commission of Thailand, Mr. Apichart Susangkanon (อภิชาต สุขัคคานนท์ ) is preparing to gather information in order to initiate prosecution of members of the People Power Party and former executive members of the Thai Rak Thai Party for their violation of political regulations in Buri Ram province.

Mr. Apichart said that since former executive members of the Thai Rak Thai Party were forbidden from participating in politics for 5 years, their recent involvement in political rallies with the People Power Party in Buri Ram province was inappropriate and may be subjected to prosecution. The Election Commission Chairman said that commission members will gather information related to the incident in order to determine whether to initiate legal proceedings against former Thai Rak Thai and People Power Party members.

3 organic laws approved by the National Legislative Assembly will be used as a benchmark to gauge the severity of the politicians' actions. Mr. Apichart added that the National Legislative Assembly believed that the Election Commission should announce the results of the December 23 elections within 7 days. He affirms that the Election Commission is up to the task.

Sounds like they are getting out the bigger flyswatter. If I remember correctly now the people in the PPP will be also be banned thus expanding the membership of Club 111. A little jail time for contempt of court might be a nice touch too!

PTV to air by radio

Supporters of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will today launch a radio station and have warned the authorities not to obstruct their broadcasts.

Published on September 27, 2007

"The management of People Television [PTV] is set to launch radio broadcasts via its website that will be relayed by other community radio stations nationwide," group spokesman Jatuporn Prom-phan said yesterday.

The management - comprising Veera Musigapong, Jakrapob Penkair and Natthawut Saikua - will outline details today, he said.

He ruled out speculation that the programmes would promote the People Power Party, the new home of disbanded Thai Rak Thai Party members and pro-Thaksin politicians.

When they originally launched PTV, they did not bother applying for a broadcasting license.

And now, let me guess... Again they did not bother applying for a broadcasting license and will complain when the small stations are taken off the air for braking some law.

EC considering legal action against Newin

The Election Commission (EC) is considering whether it can take legal action against People's Power party (PPP) key member Newin Chidchob and other party executives for involvement in political campaigning despite being banned from political activities. Newin, one of the 111 Thai Rak Thai executive members banned from political activity for five years, was the first speaker on Tuesday when the party launched its election campaign in Buri Ram. EC chairman Apichart Sukhagganond said political campaigning by Newin and other former TRT executives now with PPp was probably in breach of the ban imposed by the Constitution Tribunal. ''We are exploring whether the commission can take legal action against those politicians for defying the tribunal's ruling under the existing laws,'' he said. Their actions would be illegal once the new law governing the EC, one of three organic laws approved by the NLA on Wednesday, was promulgated, Mr Apichart said.

EC Chairman assures Cabinet reshuffle will not affect general election

Election Commission Chairman Apichart Sukhagganond affirms that the Cabinet reshuffle will not affect the general election. He says the appointment of the new Interior Minister will not cause problems.

Mr. Apichart also says the EC will investigate former Thai Rak Thai Party deputy leader Newin Chidchob’s speech at Buriram province, to see whether his speech violated the laws or not. The EC Chairman says he considers Mr. Newin’s action as improper as the Constitutional Court has already barred him from taking part in political activities for five years.

In addition, Mr. Apichart says the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has already approved the three organic laws that is required under the new constitution.

PTV will almost certainly go on air without a licence as Tony Clifton points out. This will force teh authorites to close them down or any station broadcasting them. It all looks like part of the "victim" meme now being pushed by ex-TRT leaders in the run uop to the election. First we had Newin tramping the streets of Bangkok in Y-fronts begging a taxi to take him home for free. Then we have PTV the unlicenced radio station probably shut down. We have already seen from London Mr. "I am clean of everything and please dont mention the drug war, and I cant understand why the west ignores my case and praises my successor" What next? The mind boggles at what works of fiction the likes of Yuth "dooyen" or "fat boy fat" Samak could produce quicker than a speeding bullet. Oh yes they need our sympathy unlike the families of the thousands masacred in the little extra judicial purge they helped arrange.

I dont often look in on this forum now. And when I do it reinforces the reason why I dont.

This forum is dominated by individuals so obsessed with attacking the past leader Thaksin that they fail to see the bigger picture of what is happening in Thailand right now. Pretty much like the current military dictatorship mindset.

Sad really, but I guess the opinions of a few bitter old expats who cant let go of the past and look to the future doesnt really count for much in the greater scheme of things anyway.

I will leave you boys to talk about it amongst yourselves now.

CU (much) later.

Well, it's not only Thaksin - there was PTV, UDD, DADD, PPP and the whole bunch of clowns - Veera, Jakrapop, Noppadol, Newin, Samak - how is it "our" fault that they all present themselves as Thaksin's puppets?

All other opposition to the coup has quitely disappeared. Jaran, the human rights commissioner, was kicked out for insitgating violence himself, and September 19 network got in the news only when their leader refused to stand up for the Royal anthem and was beaten up by the angry public.

Face it - it's over, people are looking to elections now and I don't see why we should dwell on last year's news.

Totally correct. however, personally i still think the shadows of the last few years events will remain hanging over Thai polics for a while yet.

As far as Thailand’s junta goes, I still prefer to sleep with one eye open so to speak. The new boss takes over Monday and for anyone that has worked in a company that has changed management while working there, they will tell you changes happen even if the management indicated otherwise.

Power changes people, and unchecked power consumes them. There are two examples and you need not look far to find them. If you think Burma’s junta was this ruthless before they took over, think again. Also Thaksin was well on his way ramping up to being out of control.

The time to put to bed the past has not yet come I am afraid.

Thaksin will never give up attempting to return to power. A proud man with plenty of money, he must be pleased the judges have delayed his trials until he returns. So now he has to wait to see the formation of the next government and possibly the one after and how he can influence the course of events.

Owning Man City is no substitute for real power.

I don't know why he bothers to keep lying, his latest reported yesterday in the Thai press that Pojaman has threatened to divorce him if he doesn't wash his hands of politics.

So if posters here seem obsessed with Thaksin it may be some of us know how much he still influences Thai politics.

I really wish he didn't!

And how do this development impact Lydia?

Choice #1: Stay with the aging and ever-girth-growing Pojaman and give up the possibility of the possible power from once again ruling an entire nation and instead resign oneself to tending to a small garden, occasionally visiting a football stadium, and resigning yourself to the realization that most people around you think you're from Taiwan.

Choice #2: Stay with the young, svelte Lydia and heartily pursue the potentiality of wielding near absolute control of 68 million people with all the numerous trappings that come with that.

hmmm.... decisions... decisions...

and yes, the future elections is what all this is really about ....

Suwit's party of smiles born

Designated leader Suwit Khunkitti (TRT Banned #53) yesterday announced the birth of his Pua Paendin (For the Motherland) Party. Its mission is to overcome social division and political impasse.

"The party will strive to put smiles back on the faces of citizens and ensure happiness in society again," he said, referring to the turmoil caused by rivalry between opponents and supporters of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Two weeks ago Suwit joined a Thai Rak Thai splinter group under the aegis of banned party executive Surakiart Sathirathai (TRT Banned #21) to build a "third force" in politics.

Yesterday, he appeared alone to plow on with the new party while his allies - like Preecha Laohapongchana (TRT Banned #68) and Pinij Charusombat (TRT Banned #11) of the Saman Chan group and Suranand Vejjajiva (TRT Banned #51) from Bangkok 50 - were no-shows. At his side was businessman-turned-politician Vachara Phanchet, the designated party secretary-general.

The new party wants to offer voters a choice and not be a proxy for either of the rival camps, the designated leader said.

Meanwhile, the Prachakorn Thai Party yesterday pledged to contest the general election even though its former leader Samak Sundaravej is leading the People Power Party, a new home for the pro-Thaksin camp.

Prachakorn Thai leader Sumit Sundaravej said his party was in alliance with his older brother Samak. "The two parties are siblings in every sense of the word," he said.

Election Commission secretary-general Suthiphon Thaveechaiygarn reminded banned party executives and Thaksin supporters that new campaigning rules barred them from using the name of the banned party to sway voters to the People Power Party.

Suthiphon singled out a Thaksin speech recorded on compact disc and distributed in the North.

"In his message, Thaksin spoke in North dialect encouraging Thai Rak Thai supporters to vote for People Power Party," he said, noting this was in clear violation of the ban.

Under Article 95 of the Political Parties Act, the name, abbreviation or logo of a party disbanded by a court verdict cannot be used for political gain.

If convicted, offenders face jail terms up to two years and a fine of no more than Bt40,000.

EC to probe whether Newin speech broke law

Election Commission chairman Apichart Sukhakagganond said the agency would investigate whether former Thai Rak Thai Party MP Newin Chidchob had broken the election law by speaking recently at a political campaign rally in Buri Ram.

A complaint against Newin was filed with the EC's Buri Ram provincial office after his speech.

EC member Prapan Naikowit said it would investigate whether people who attended the rally had been hired to do so, and whether Newin had said anything that broke the law.

Newin claimed the current election law did not ban politicians whose election rights had been suspended from making a political address.

Apichart said he had received the CD that contained Newin's speech to constituents. He understands that the CD has been distributed widely.

He said if Newin's speech were linked to the People Power Party, the party could face dissolution.

"We have to see whether the party backed Newin to go on stage to address constituents as part of a political campaign,'' he said.

Noppadon Pattama, legal adviser to deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, warned the EC against interpreting the law with intent to destroy the People Power Party.

He said the party had scrutinised the law carefully and believed Newin had the right to make a political speech on-stage.

Sanoh Affirms Leading Pracharaj Party in Next Election

Amid speculation of a possible change in leadership, the current chief of the Pracharaj Party Sanoh Tienthong (TRT Non-Banned #1) asserted his intention to lead the party until after the election.

Sanoh admitted he was unsure whether former Prime Minister, General Chavalit Yongjaiyudh would join them as the two have yet to meet to discuss the issue.

Rumours have emerged that General Chavalit could still be close to the former power group and may be joining other parties to spy on them. However, the Pracharaj leader refused to comment on the issue.

Sanoh said his party will only welcome people sharing the same ideology. Once the organic bills on the election are implemented, the time frame on MP candidate membership in a political party will be known and politicians can prepare for the election.

Sanoh said Pracharaj will stick to its stance of not joining forces with politicians who have been banned from politics by the Election Commission and political parties acting as nominees of dissolved parties.

The Pracharaj party held a seminar on Friday to discuss the party's policies and whether they meet public expectation.

Key members of the party, such as TPI founder Prachai Liewpairat, party secretary-general Anongwan Thepsutin, politician Thawatchai Sajjakul, and actor Sombat Maetanee, also attended.

At the event, Sanoh voiced his skepticism that the election can be held on December 23, saying politicians are still divided into different groups and the government itself is facing a turmoil with the resignation of ministers. He also warns political groups preparing to register as parties that they will not make it in time for the election at the end of the year.
