Panya Kamrab, the former police officer who committed mass murder at a child care centre in Thailand’s Nong Bua Lam Phu province on Thursday, had an unhappy childhood, with his parents separating, and was alleged to have resorted to drug abuse while studying at high school, according to an informed police source.

 

He was not talkative, but was prone to occasional outbursts of violence.

 

He did, however, do well in his education and managed to enrol at the police academy for non-commissioned officers and passed the drug test. While in the police service, he enrolled at Ramkhamhaeng University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (Second Grade Honour).

 

While serving at a police station in Nong Bua Lam Phu province, he was aggressive and is reported to have fired his gun into the air and shot a few dogs and cats in the presence of his fellow officers, until he had his pistol confiscated by his superior.

Oh dear how sad, BUT NOT an excuse to mitigate what he did. A callous act. !!!!!!!!!!!!

a drug addict ....  they should have sent him to the Philippines when Duterte was in....

Shooting animals dead isn't generally perceived as a mentally healthy hobby. The animal cruelty is recognized as a red flag indicator for future violence of persons.

 

A history of drug abuse and yet he still became a member of the RTP. According to the forensic report he had no drugs in his system after he committed his heinous crime. It seems he was just a crazy.

At least he had a childhood, unlike his victims.

He paid for his position and promotion by borrowing money from RTP Loan-Shark Department. And to service that debt his only option was to deal drugs.

That he was a hard worker, bought a job for life that was unfairly being taken from him. The system had turned against him and he was in a rage.

Ok, so a guy that would have been in a professional treatment program for his issues in many other countries.

Looks like they are bracing for the fall-out in the RTP.  Something like this shows that they need to evaluate Mental Illness by testing and looking for the red flags.  I have been told by many folks I know in the RTP at higher ranks that there has never been any true psychological pre-screening for new recruits, and they do there best to shield the public from folks in their ranks by hiding certain facts and using the defamation laws on hand to silence critics.  If they spent half the amount of time actually evaluating folks then they might not be held accountable as an agency when things go south.  Many folks who have mental illness have been treated successfully and go on to have brilliant careers in law enforcement, but it is something that folks are concerned about and why those who have an issue, either seek help and are on the right path while others delve into alcohol and drugs. Thailand is not the only country that has issues in its governmental work forces, and now with social media it is becoming more well known just how bad the mental health system in this country really is.  No one ever wants to face the true issues as they believe it will cause a loss of face.....sorry my view as a mental health professional who has dealt with this thorough out my career.

Reasoning? Who stabs little kids? He was not within 20 km of reason! Rage, anger and dissatisfaction with your life are invalid excuses for causing other people pain. We all have setbacks. Real men deal with them, and move on. Cowards and creeps commit these kind of unforgivable acts of violence.

It would seem there are many not real men in the world. Probably even more cowards and creeps. The world if chock full of them. I am glad so few act on their rage and fantasies of revenge.

 if you pay <deleted> and treat your people as <deleted> you get <deleted>.  

 

In order to get the brightest and best you have to provide the brightest and best outlook.

 

Imagine if the RTP and the military paid 10k to start and provided good housing.  Provided skills training so that people could get a good job after serving for a few years.

 

You would not need the draft as young people would be lining up to join.

And in those many other Countries, his professional treatment, and care, would have been instigated a long, long time ago given the traits he had shown throughout his Career, and his Drug addiction.

He almost certainly would have been discharged from the Police Force very quickly after being diagnosed as a Drug user.

Its truly sad to think that this Individual was not only able to become a Police Officer, and served for many Years, but was not given any meaningful support or treatment for he issues that he obviously had.

Not unusual here. Many Thai males same, with violence and murder as the outcome, if on a lesser scale. 

 

Only positive in the heartbreaking and horrific story is that he took himself out. Should have just started with himself and left all innocents out.

A fair point.

So only once was he drug tested at the start of his career they should be Randomly tested every week.

So he had a bad childhood, not good but no excuse for what he did.

If people are cruel to animals, in his case killing cats and dogs indiscriminately for fun, it is a sign of worse things to come.

Yes, and when they spend years of their life happily stoned out their head , selfishly taking drugs and not caring about anyone else and just taking drugs , they re portrayed as some kind of victim , like the drugs were responsible for being taken by him
