Transfering Music And Video

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I want to transfer around 40 gb of music and video from my laptop to my PC.

The cable I have connected the two computers together with is ICN Cat SE Patch Cable UTP (crossover).

I'm getting a message from both computers saying 'This connection has limited or no connectivity'

I've never tried this before, so can you advise as to where I'm going wrong. When I actually get a good connection, how

do I start the transfer?

Let me know if you require more info from me.

Many Thanks

Assuming you're running XP on both systems, have you run the network connection wizard on both? It's quite simple to follow and will get you going. Then just use Explorer to copy the stuff. You may also have a dodgy x-over cable.

[Network Setup Wizard, Start>Programs>Accessories>Communications, by default, I think.]

Wouldnt it be easier just to back it all up on an external harddrive and then you can move it anywhere you want and keeps it a little safer?

Thanks for your reply. I 've gone into network setup wizard on my laptop and PC and I'm getting this message;

'The wizard found disconnected network hardware'

'The network connections listed abelow are disconnected, plug in cables etc.'

On the laptop I've a LAN-Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter. and on the PC I've got a

Marvel Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernat controller.

I will try and get another cable and see iof that works.

I want to be able to access the music and video on my PC. I will leave it also on my laptop as back up.

When my PC got a virus. I could still access everything except the internet. So before i done a new install. I copied all my music etc(about 40 odd gigs) to an external HD. This was done by USB. It takes a bit of time. You should be able to do the same using an USB cable PC to Laptop. But not too long.

If you continue to have trouble why not buy a USB thumb drive? They cost less than 1,000 baht for 2GB models now and you have something you can use for a number of functions. Would not take long to transfer files at 2gb per swap.
