Tragic scenes: Thai media report on the funeral and cremation of massacre victims

There were truly tragic scenes last night in a specially adapted parking lot of Wat Rat Samakhi in Uthai Sawan district of Nong Bualamphu in north eastern Thailand, reported Thai Rath.

 

It was the funeral and cremation of nineteen of the victims of the shooting and stabbing massacre in the area last week.

 

Thai PM Prayuth Chan-Ocha laid flowers on behalf of HM the King.

 

Another senior palace official laid flowers on behalf of HM the King's mother.

 

Then senior officials and members of the public had their turn before the coffins were laid out.

 

The first to be consumed in the fire was the body of a teacher with her unborn child.

260 people need psychiatric support following Nong Bua Lam Phu atrocity
 

 

Psychiatric experts and volunteers will be dispatched, to provide counselling and to assess the impacts on the mental health of the injured and the families of the dead in the mass murder at the childcare centre in Nong Bua Lam Phu province, following the Royally-sponsored cremation ceremonies yesterday (Tuesday).

 

Dr. Amporn Benjaponpitak, director-general of Mental Health Department, said that there are around 260 people who may be suffering mental trauma and who are in need of expert psychiatric help.

 

Special care will be given to those most likely to be suffering the worst effects of the tragedy, she said, adding that whole process may take as long as three months, especially for those suffering serious trauma.
