"A misunderstanding!": Thai cops explain away apparent brutish and inappropriate behavior

An inquiry was instigated after a clip on Line was shared. 

 

It featured a senior officer from the number 43 force of the border patrol police in Songkhla, southern Thailand, holding a junior officer's head to the ground in a restaurant. The junior officer had his hands pinned behind his back, reported Siam Rath.

 

Social media users thought this was police brutality, albeit against one of their own.

Border Patrol #43 chief Pol Col Yongsak Ratandilok na Phuket responded by saying that his officer was drunk and boasted about it on Line.

 

Later it emerged from the wider inquiry that the incident occurred during a dinner in a private room out of view of the public.

 

There were senior and junior drugs suppression police present.

 

One junior officer had talked about his ambitions for promotion and was giving it the large one about his physical prowess.

 

The older members of the gathering who had been through it all before suggested this and that but the younger officer persisted with his wrongful claims about how to do things like detain suspects.

 

He was then shown how. 

 

It was all a misunderstanding on behalf of the public.

 

Though the officer concerned has been warned about his behavior and social media activity.

Sounds like much ado over nothing, which is about 98% of the content of social media, which I consider to be one of the most destructive forces in contemporary society and culture. Social media is 99% toxic, and 1% positive.

It amazes me how people get upset about what total strangers, people they have never met and are unlikely to ever meet, say about them. Similarly, personalities of all kinds often attract massive abuse yet put their tag out there for all to see and attack. Why don't these people just concoct some name that no-one would ever guess was them and give it only to trusted friends?

 

The human race has not advanced enough to use social media responsibly, nor the internet in general, without there being collateral damage. What should be one of the greatest inventions in history is, inevitably, too often highjacked by lunatics and conspiracy theorists, and sees websites set up that lead to self abuse and suicides.

Isn't it great when the term "misunderstanding" can be used by law enforcement to effectively quash any litigation when the offender is a senior Thai Police Officer.

 

I'm sure that if I commit an offense and use the excuse of "misunderstanding" that I would not  be afforded the same get out of jail free card.

 

This is just another form of corruption and misuse of power.
