So its OK to ride a motorbike on the path if you are Thai but this guy would be classified as a pedestrian but he is charged with a motoring offence for actually do nothing wrong !

No, it's not ok for bikes to be on the pavements, they get fined if they're caught and this Canadian was doing something wrong.

"was going fast in between traffic. One Grab delivery guy couldn't get by."   there is contradiction - if he was going fast he was not blocking motorbikes. He is an equal road user, as

  • Not really that smart with no protective gear, but he does seem to be moving rather faster than the traffic in much of that clip

Amazing Thailand.

How fast they act when it comes to punish foreigners.

How about doing their job and sie all the millions of motorcycle drivers on the sidewalk???

I forgotten, they are Thais.

They are getting worse, because not slow riding their Motor bike any more.

By now they are even speeding on the sidewalk.

For me, it's a total lost of face.

I must confess, I did not know it was illegal either .... just pretty f^&*&g stupid and something only an idiot would attempt.

It always comes down to the "dirty tourists" doing wrong.

Being legal, illegal or whatever, including/discounting common sense, it will likely end in tears.

Reminds me of the movie "Tracers".

Reeks of double standards in a country with the 2nd highest road toll in the world. Good on the guy. He paid his fine and that's the end of the story.

Lol. Plenty of bikes wherever you go are on the footpath or heading up the wrong way of the road. I doubt that many of the riders are ever apprehended.

thinks he's at Venice Beach

Only 1,000 Baht. Totally worth it!

They're not immune but they are, theoretically, legal on the roads.

You are correct, if the riders are wearing helmets!

I don't understand what the problem is. In Thailand you can drive 50k over the speed limit, drunk, and in a school zone and the police won't even bother to notice. ????????????

so nothing different than a million thai every day doing something quite similar but in a much faster motorized way.

still a meatball for doing this though. he must of thought he was super cool doing it though.

would of been a better story if he got hit.

And start a GoFundMe to pay for the physical damages !?!?

Even if the riders are not wearing helmets, motorcycles are permitted on the roads, pedestrians causing traffic congestion are not.

One reads about emergency vehicles being blocked and not being able to get through, but when a GRAB driver gets blocked by a ROLLER BLADER, my God, what's the World coming to?   555

yes, in many european and american cities bladders use roads, and are forbidden to use pavements

Can I rollerblade on the road?

You can roller skate on the road. But your safety should come first! Roller skating on the roads can be risky because of busy traffic and unfriendly skating surface like potholes. This can also wear out your roller skate wheels in no time

Is a helmet required for rollerblading?

No, you don't have to wear a helmet while on a skateboard, rollerblade or roller-skate, but it's still a good idea. There are also some other laws about riding skateboards, rollerblades and roller-skates: You must keep to the left of a footpath or shared path unless it is impractical to do so

He should be on the sidewalk. Then watch all the farangs moan about that????

And would they fine a guy jogging between heavy traffic? I doubt it…

the reason blocking traffic is ridiculous… most motor bikes are blocking traffic and vehicles double parking

please cite a specific section of the driving code relating to this behavior?

I saw a guy doing this on Phetchaburi Rd one afternoon at commute time (heading in the direction of KSR).  I was eating at a stall, the lady that ran the place answered a phone call and started looking at me, then says something to me about a farang while pointing to the street.  People came out of shops and alleys to see him, they seemed pretty entertained.  The traffic was blocking him while he managed to keep moving.

Farang have to give money.

We know he was a farang or he would have been texting while simultaneously weaving through traffic

Love the sarcasm, but its a bit too near the truth?

Another twerp who thinks he is entitled to break the law and do something he wouldn't dare do in his own country

  • Popular Post

I suspect all too many of the local farangs are ready to pounce on any foreigners bending the law while ignoring the fact that Thais are the ones who act most irresponsibly on the roads in their own country.

Just a note.
He's not doing anything that I haven't seen bicyclists do.
In his defense, bicyclists have two wheel and he has 8.  Why shouldn't he be able to share the road as bicyclist do?

Caveat:  I'm playing Devil's Advocate here.  But it's a legitimate discussion topic.

And what law it that.  Can you refer me to the Thai road laws that specifically outlaw skating on public roads?  I don't believe you can, but I'm willing to suspend doubt until you do.

These people need to learn what safe, considerate road use is before reacting in droves.

Not legal in his own country yet alone Bangkok.  Put him in the padwally amongst all the other nutters.

Does it means there is no law against roller blading in the street without a helmet? He was charged with an offence that all Bangkok traffic commits. Nothing specifically pertaining to roller blading or wearing a helmet.

Especially the Grab idiots. They are a menace.

I think TAT is missing out on a great promotional opportunity for extreme tourists here.

'Blading in Bangkok' could rival 'Running with the Bulls' in Pampalona.

The village is full of electric bikes and trikes now.

All unregistered.

All illegal.

But no news story there...
