Liz Truss has insisted she will lead the Tories into the next general election, despite U-turns leaving her battling to salvage her authority.

The PM apologised for making mistakes, after the new chancellor Jeremy Hunt junked almost all of her tax-cutting plans to stabilise market turmoil.

She added her month-old premiership "hasn't been perfect," but she had "fixed" mistakes.

Allow me to put a big laughter on that even though I am not from the UK.

I naively hoped that the UK would come out from Brexit strong and healthy as an example ????

Yeah, because UK governments always call elections when they are at their weakest point. That way, they can ensure the worst possible result ????.

 

I suspect they will wait as long as they can, which is no later than January 2025.

Generally speaking, people who vote for the least worst option.  The economic turmoil being felt by all countries was due to excessive over reactions to covid and shutting down productivity for the best part of 2 years, printing hundreds of billions of £ which, to no-one's surprise except for the lockdown lovers and their childlike grasp of the economic consequences of such actions, had a hugely negative economic impact which will probably be felt for decades.  

 

Labour, based on what they said over the last few years, would have locked down for longer and harder, printed even more money and caused even more financial hardship.

It's obviously hypothetical to question whether Labour's handling of the Covid crisis would have made matters worse but imo Labour can be criticised now for a lack of detail in their economic strategy. (Although in the circumstances, this is perfectly understandable: Why leave yourself open to attack when your opposition is constantly shooting themselves in the foot?)

 

However, it's highly unlikely that the infighting in the Tory party will resolve itself before the next election, so if you vote Tory what will you get? Ideological libertarians (the ERG), 'Austerity' economics (Hunt) or 'Traditional' Toryism (Wallace)?

 

Imo a vote for the Tories will be a vote for more chaos and far from the least-worst option.

Lead into the election? The last person to say that was Boris....he lasted about another day.

No cap on utilities after April, and no triple lock on pensions and benefits. Truss is pushing millions on low come into poverty. 

Her mini budget has down permanent damage because she has forced up the rates of government borrowing so just reversing everything will cost more than it did before.

What is not understandable is why she is still there. She is the most unpopular PM in history. She meets the dreaded 1922 committee tomorrow so they may tell her to go.

 

The problem is who to replace her with and quick.

 

Never before in UK history has a party with an 80 seat majority been unable to firm a government.. 

 

Thanks to Boris's inability to tell the truth and resign, the Britsh government has collapsed and taken Britain's  credibility with it.

I believe it was the Economist that initially compared her premiership to the shelf life of a lettuce.

Either way their is universal condemnation of Truss unlike anything we have seen in a lifetime.

The Tories are involved in a massive and vsin damage limitation process..... but the only way out is to replace Truss.... they may even have to rethink the office of PM itself... promoting the Chancellor whilst relegating the office of PM to cha lady.

Actually The office of prime minister is not established by any statute or constitutional document, but exists only by long-established convention, whereby the reigning monarch appoints as prime minister the person most likely to command the confidence of the House of Commons

The prime minister is ex officio also First Lord of the Treasury!

I don't vote because they never offer candidates that I feel are worthy of my vote.

If only voting forms had "no suitable candidate" as an option, I might be tempted to vote.

Last time I voted was for Arthur Scargill's Socialist Labour Party (1996?).

Anyone willing to try and defend her and give some positives to her tenure .

    Lets face it , if you turned Liz Truss into an atom and also turned Kwasi Kwarteng into an atom and put them both into the hadron collider and sent them in different directions , when they collide , Diane Abbot would appear as the result 

This birds punched way above her weight. I would not be surprised if she was a swinger. I thought she would last a year but she has completely wilted. A month and shes gone and im gonna suggest the first PM to be passed as unfit for office due to a mental breakdown. Way out of her depth shes heading for a huge fall. In a year i would not be surprised if she was on smack after this shambolic performance. Worst ever, it cannot get any worse.
