BANGKOK, June 26 (TNA) - Thailand's cabinet approved a special budget of Bt271 million to develop violence-plagued southern Thailand, according to deputy government spokesman Nattawat Suthiyothin.

After the weekly cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Mr. Nattawat said that the cabinet approved the budget requested by the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC).

The allocation will go to support varied development projects in four border provinces -- Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani and Satun -- as well as some districts of Songkhla.

The ultimate goal of the projects is to reduce the violence in the Muslim-majority provinces. (TNA)-E002

Cabinet injects 271 million baht to improve educational and labour system in the Deep South

The Cabinet has approved 271 million baht to improve educational curriculums and occupational development programs in the southern border provinces.

Deputy Spokesperson to the Prime Minister's Office Natthawat Suthiyothin (ณัฐฐวัฒน์ สุทธิโยธิน) conducted a press conference to report on a Cabinet meeting today. The Cabinet has reportedly agreed to allocate 271 million baht to the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center as part of a strategic development plan for the 4 southern border provinces.

The government hopes to improve eduation, occupation, and mitigation activities while working to achieve national reconciliation. The Deputy Spokesperson said that the Bureau of the Budget will be allocating the 271 million baht from the 2007 fiscal budget. 10 projects are aimed for Pattani province, 7 for Narathiwat province, 12 for Yala province, 3 for Satun province, and 3 for some districts in Songkhla province.
