20k baht+ is what the consulate wants to see. But does my bank statement have to show I have always had this amount or more for the months before, or is the current balance the only the number that matters? Many thanks

You only need proof of 20k baht being in the bank when you get the bank statement.

Is this acceptable in any currency (with equivalent amount) or is this only acceptable when its Baht in a Thai Bank?

- I am assuming cash would not be acceptable?

That is correct.

I am expecting money to go into my Australian bank soon but for now am getting under 20000 baht. I have a visa card with about 200,000 baht credit available (10000 AUD). Do you think they will accept that or should I get a cash advance on the card so it is in my personal account? Cheers.

You would need the funds in your personal account..

So use the second option that you list.
