A row over prime minister Rishi Sunak’s refusal to attend the Cop27 climate summit took an extraordinary twist on Saturday night as the Observer was informed that his predecessor but one – Boris Johnson – is planning to attend the event.

Several sources said they had been told that Johnson is intending to go to the crucial meeting of world leaders in Egypt to show his solidarity with the battle against the climate crisis.

Johnson’s attendance would be potentially explosive just days after Sunak took over as prime minister and decided he did not have time to attend.

Johnson’s involvement would be seen as both an implicit criticism of Sunak for not going and an attempt to maintain and bolster his profile just a week after he abandoned his own attempts at a dramatic comeback to No 10. Several sources close to Johnson did not deny that he was set to go.

Rather dishonest reporting there .

Makes it sound like he's refusing to go because he opposes it or something .

   Rishi will not be attending because he is focusing on the UKs domestic issues and needs to work on the UKs problems .

   Had Rishi gone to Cop27 , the newspapers headline would probably have been "Rishi deserts the UK to fly by private jet to attend a meeting " 

   (And there was no "row" either , Rishi isnt going and Boris will be going instead , no big deal and no "row")

I would think that there are very few people in the UK these days who would dislike a person based solely on their skin colour or heritage

I very much doubt if there are any people who go and vote in an election and make their choice based on a candidates skin colour .

   If a person supports a particular political party, its doubtful whether they would swap alliance on the sole reason their candidate was a certain colour and vote for another opposing  candidate

UK taxes due are calculated between April 6~April 5, what a tax payer lost in previous years is irrelevant.

 

she’ll and BP’s international (non UK)  businesses do not pay tax in the UK.

He’s withdrawn most of Truss’ lunacy which has calmed the markets and he’s said a few crowd pleasing things.

 

But he hasn’t actually done anything yet.

 

There’s a Tory created £50,000,000,000 hole in the National finances and Sunak is weeks away from the budget that will address that hole.

 

Will he tax windfall profits, unearned incomes, sign up for the CCCB or will he enact Tory Austerity 2.

 

Putting an end to Truss’ lunacy was the easy bit, now he needs to deliver.
