Russia's refusal to declare war on Japan, who had comprehensively destroyed both Russia's Pacific Fleet and their Black Sea Fleet in 1905, did the allied powers no favours and probably contributed greatly to the loss of Colonial possession in Asia.

 

They did declare war on Japan in the last weeks of WW2. Piling on, so to speak.

Life is to short to let your country be swallowed by another who aligned itself by the one knocking on your door like Germany was doing to Russia. Now it is Russia that is trying to be the instigator and steal land, but then Thailand does not see it that way.  Thailand's only concern is tourism and many do not want Thailand to sell land, well 1 Rai, to foreigners even though China has swallowed up Laos, Cambodia, etc... using it's belt and road scheme. THailand is playing both ends against the middle and one day it will truly bite them.

 

Finally, relevant to today, Russia has endangered 75 years of peace in Europe. Even if much of that time was labeled a "Cold War".

 

Russia is a nation I grew up viewing as the next adversary.. Gorbachev and Perestroika was a welcome surprise. Now Russia is back at it.

 

Personally, I was prepared to live and let live.. a situation that played out living here in Thailand, Jomtien specifically, for the last 20 years. Jomtien becoming almost a Russian outpost.

 

I now am not particularly happy to share my retirement home with Russians.

There was a pretty large number of Russians who left there when the war started, referred to as the brain drain. Leaving now does not necessarily make them lowlifes, just slower to catch on.

You can bet if I was being at risk of being sent to a war with next to no training, inferior equipment, and lousy military leaders I'd be wanting out too. IMO that does not make me a coward.

This is not a war, this is a fascade for something else.  Russia is the #2 military force in the world and could crush Ukraine in a few days if it were war.  

They are all playing chess and people debate on it as they only can comprehend checker board-level moves.

Interesting i was born in England and my mother was half French, my father half Irish and my surname is the same as 2 previous Presendent's to the USA. ????

Let me put it another way ,    if they opposed the war so much when it started why weren't they out protesting for a regime change with the other brave Russians who did so,  that's because they were in support of Putin and his murderous war thugs, at home bragging about taking Ukraine and murdering,  then when sh_t hits the fan and they are called up for service they run like cowards.    Sorry, your not convincing me,  I've seen how young Russians behave.
