"Well dressed" robber causes gold shop to revise security arrangements

Daily News reporters went to the Hua Heng Yaowarat gold shop in Pracha-uthit Soi 22, Ratburana, Bangkok, after a gold shop robbery there on Friday.

 

Owner Waraporn Arunnapharat, 51, said yesterday that a well dressed and well-scrubbed looking man had come into the shop looking for a gold bracelet.

 

It appeared to be just another customer.

 

Her husband was serving at the time and he showed the customer some one baht weight bracelets and two half baht weight ones.

The customer asked if he could take a picture then made as if he was speaking to someone on the phone before ending the call.

 

He then ran out with the two half baht weight bracelets as her husband was putting the other items away.

 

Her husband and daughter gave chase but he jumped on a motorcycle parked next to the store and escaped.

 

She said that they were now installing a special security door at the shop.
