Pattaya prepares to welcome visitors during APEC summit holidays

Pattaya City is getting ready for an influx of visitors during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit special holidays.

 

The Thai Cabinet has declared November 16th to 18th during the APEC summit as special holidays in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan.

 

In essence, this means a five-day holiday weekend for many in and around Bangkok and those trying to get out of the big city as world leaders converge on Bangkok. Local hotel leaders in Pattaya have already reported strong demand for hotel rooms across Pattaya during the holiday period.

Good for Pattaya but normal life in Bangkok is disrupted and billions are spent on this non-event. In Prayut's mind this is his big moment to shine on the world stage. The general population in Thailand could not care less, same for the rest of the world whose media will give the event little more than a passing mention.
