Xi says Asia-Pacific is no one’s backyard

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday warned against major power contest in Asia-Pacific which he said is no one’s backyard.

 

“No attempt to wage a new Cold War will ever be allowed by the people or by our times,” Xi said in a written speech to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Summit prior to the APEC summit which begins in Bangkok on Friday.

 

Xi, who arrived Thursday evening, also said countries in the region should “follow a path of peaceful development,” “a path of openness and inclusiveness” and “a path of solidarity.”

Is this openness, inclusiveness etc why China is using a map written millennia ago to justify its island building, militarization and massive territorial claims in the South China Sea. 

 

Old Winnie needs to learn that words and action must be as one.

How is China's military base in Cambodia's Ream naval base a peaceful development? Or:

• China pledged support for Myanmar's junta "No matter how the situation changes"
• China accepted Gen. Prayut's military coup as legal and signed a security pack with the junta.
• China claims against the World Court, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Vietnam that the whole of the South China Sea is part of its sovereignty and entitled to exclusive right all the Sea's resources.
• China refuses to strengthen UN Security Council sanctions imposed over North Korea's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.
• China provides Russia with economic and financial support during Russia's war on Ukraine.
• Xi has threatened Australia over Australia's military alliance with the US. "China has a strong production capability, including producing additional long-range missiles with conventional warheads that target military objectives in Australia when the situation becomes highly tense (sic)." "The reason why the Chinese Communist Party is labeled as the biggest national security threat to Australia is because they are." (Senator James Patterson, Aug. 11, 2022;  www.abc.net.au/news)

It is China's intention to be the only hegemon in Asia. And "Emperor for Life" Xi is its chief propogandist. Trust Xi as one would trust the word of "peace" cited by PM Prayut.
