One day after retaking a majority in the US House of Representatives, Republicans have said they will investigate the president's family as a "top priority".

The lawmakers said the inquiry would focus on overseas business dealings of the president's son, Hunter Biden.

The 52-year-old is already under federal investigation, but has so far not faced any charges.

The younger Biden is not involved with the administration in any capacity.

But top Republicans insist their inquiry will determine the extent of Joe Biden's alleged involvement in his son's business dealings, including during the elder Biden's time as vice-president.

I honestly thought with the misinformation, the coverup and the censorship he would get away with this, perhaps not! Thank you midterm voters.

I would not have let this man send a single solitary $ to the Ukraine until the alleged conflict of interest was investigated.

Lol! They have nothing against Joe.

Hunter is a private citizen, neither a politician nor a government official. His company, or the companies he advised, did not get any public procurement, licence, or other favour from the government. His involvement was strictly with private business. If he did not get anything from the government, there is no way Joe could be involved in an abuse of power, or even a conflict of interest. (Also no way Joe could be suspected of being positively biased towards China and Russia)

As a private citizen involved only in private business, there is no reason for a House investigation. It's so obviously politically motivated.

(Of course, no committee on the man who shall not be named, who granted official positions to his familly, and involved his business in dealings with the government)

The alleged conflict of interest was investigated. Giuliani forwarded his findings to the Justice Dept. And not even the Justice Dept under William Barr could find anything there.

False.

"After Paradigm, James Biden landed a new gig. Despite a lack of experience in the construction industry, he was named an executive vice president at HillStone International, a subsidiary of New Jersey-based construction firm Hill International, in November 2010.

In June 2011, the firm landed contracts worth an estimated $1.5 billion to build homes in Iraq. At the time, HillStone had little homebuilding experience. Joe Biden was leading the administration’s Iraq policy. "

I forgot James. That's old stuff. It doesn't justify a new investigation.

You know full well there is more to the Biden/Burisma/Shokin/Son of a ___ he got fired!/Trump impeachment than a simple guy doing private business. We are going to get to the bottom of it. I suspect it will be very painful for some having their conspiracy theories upended.

Which conspiracy theories are you referring to?

The Politico article clearly demonstrates how dodgy they are, going back years. We didn't have the laptop back then so the more juicy recent stuff which was censored by dem supporting big tech wasn't known. The evidence is now damning and is fully corroborated and not denied by the Bidens. The narrative that Joe never discussed business with his son(or his sons dodgy foreign business associates) is over.

I never said I had any esteem for Hunter. He's parasiting his familly name. He's currently under investigation and If he deserves to be punished, so be it.

By the way, I had a look at the "suspect" company mentioned in the article (Hills International): a large established company involved in many international projects, including in the middle East. Nothing suspect in getting a contract in Irak.with this pedigree.

This is no longer about Hunter. We have crossed the Rubicon. This is now about President Joe Biden and his alleged corruption.

His family are part of the story but not central. What is concerning Republicans is that you have a thoroughly compromised president and a massive security risk. This is urgent work.

Probably not. By all accounts he was a drug addict. Would you be in business with your son if he was a drug addict and you had a well paying senate gig? No, I didn't think so.

repubs don't seem to get it. A majority of voters support the 6 Jan investigation, because it was actually important: an attempt to overthrow democracy. 2 45 impeachments were based on actual crimes of an elected official, not a relation of an official.

The majority do not care about Biden's son, and would have been opposed if the House had launched investigations into 45, jr and the toothy one, who spent 4 years influence peddling in Saudi, the UAE, India, etc.----AND at the US Taxpayer expense, as they brought along secret service on all of their 'business' travels. The son-in-law 'somehow' got $1.3 billion in financing (on a building with a market value of $700 million) from the govt of Qatar...and days after the funding was secured, sanctions were removed against Qatar. Still, Dems did not hold Hearings on that rather obvious illegality while 'serving' as a Snr Adviser to POTUS.

repubs already had the worst showing in a midterm by an out-of-power Party since after 9-11. The reason is because they are obsessed with nonsense, like election denial.

Please, repubs, start dozens of House investigations in January. Have alleged pedophile matt "pizza' gaetz, the pedo enabler and yapping chihuahua little gym jordan, non-highschool grad, QAnon believer, and spouse to a man convicted of exposing himself to young girls boebert scream at witnesses in Hearings. You will alienate more voters and GUARANTEE a Dem landslide in the House, Senate & White House in 2024.

Molon labe, repubs. Dig your own graves.

Can you accept that Hunter leaving his laptop with all the emails at JP McIsaac's shop in 2019 could be rather helpful in a new inquiry? Having the fully corroborated emails, how the $ get divvied up, corroborated by those CC'd on the email is very serious evidence, and will be hard to weasel out of.

That didn't take long.

I'll be honest.  Especially after the revelations that it seems as though Ukraine is the quintessential place to launder US taxpayer money provided to Ukraine trough outfits like FTX and then converted back to fiat and donated back to US congress-critters?  And trust me, I'm a political atheist and I'm pointing fingers at all parties, not just one individual or one party.

The entire DC swamp, all of it, needs to be drained.  Organizations such as the FBI and DOJ need to be completely apolitical and aligned with no parties.  And the corruption needs to be addressed and resolved from top to bottom - Democrat or Republican - President to ex-President; top officials to staffers.  Everyone.

If the US is to be what it claims to be.....the exceptional nation?  And I assume "exceptional" means above corruption.  Right now "exceptional" seems to mean exceptionally corrupt. Then it needs to stop acting like a third-world tin-pot bastion of corruption.  Congressmen and senators, presidents and ex-preidents should not be able to become multi-millionaires on their government salaries.  The only way that happens is via corruption.

So - clean it up.

Agree, all we need now is some evidence.

Indeed so, unfortunately both those institutions have a history of being right wing.

It doesn't mean fishing expeditions. Remember Bill Clinton and the seven year political inquisition?

You mentioned the Biden/Burisma/Shokin conspiracy and It's been debunked. From what I know, there's nothing new about it in the laptop.

As about the emails, the JV has been created, the shareholders are known, and Joe is not one of them. On top of it, it happened while Trump and the GOP were managing the country, so Joe was a private citizen at this time.

Hunters business dealings and its financial aspects are currently being investigated (by a Republican), so no need for the Senate to get involved, unless for political motives.

That's some funny stuff!

Nobody with an IQ higher than a turnip thinks Biden is any sort of security risk, much less a 'massive' one.

As for urgent work, indicting a POTUS who fomented an attempted coup, which qualifies as the capital crime of Sedition, is quite serious and urgent. That he thinks he can hide behind a declared candidacy is patently silly, as it would be the new defense for everyone from a rapist to a murderer to a thief to a serial killer: "I'm running for POTUS in 2024".

Also, a departing loser POTUS who stole TS/SCI, HCS and Codeword documents, then lied about having them DOES represent a massive security risk. What possible purpose could he have for the theft? Certainly it suggests a desire to monetize them.

When the loser was POTUS, he also represented a massive security risk...for a number of reasons...one of which was that he regularly discussed classified information on an un-secure phone. Among those who set up listening equiptment near the White House and Mar-a-Lago during his time were China, Russia, Iran, Israel and North Korea.
