Sanook Thai Caption: On overstay of 3,246 days and he likes to make trouble

Immigration in Udon Thani, north eastern Thailand were called to Kut Chap sub-district in Kut Chap district where a belligerent foreigner was making trouble.

Sanook reported that complaints were received after the man - a 74 year old Finnish national - was causing a frequent nuisance.

When the immigration police arrived at a rented property he was waving a stick about menacingly.

The media said he was a danger to society who was noisy and argumentative.

He was now resisting arrest.

He needed to be subdued with metal prods before he was taken away to Kut Chap police station.

He was found to be on overstay of 3,246 days.

He'd arrived in Nong Khai on January 5th 2014 and was given permission to stay for a year until January 5th 2015.

He seems to have done nothing about his visa after that.

  • I'd say he's finnished from Udon Thani.

  • Sounds like his neighbours will be glad to see the back of him, noisy and argumentative is a job reserved for Thai ????

I'm not one of these "you're a guest in the country" types, but at least be nice to your neighbours if you're on years of overstay!   Maybe he's gone a bit senile.

= 2882 days overstay, it seems they have added the 365 days since he got permission to stay. but reporting actual facts in Thailand seems very difficult.

"frequent nuisance" doesn't equates to "threat to society".

Still, if you know you're staying very illegibly in the country, the most you can do is behave and not be a nuisance to the locals right? could it be that the man doesn't play with full deck of cards any longer.?..

I think you have misunderstood. They are not anally inserted. They just pin people down.

Having to use these methods to subdue a 74 year old man is pathetic.

Hardly crime of the century.

Something you don't do when on a long overstay like that , If

he had kept his head down and gotten along with other people

he could have lived his life out here.

That is 7 years, 10 months, 3 weeks or 2882 days.  That goes to show you what a grade 5 education can do for you and that's a smart Cop.

Well, if the society was noisy and argumentative then I would be pi**ed off too.

By the way my calculations, allowing for leap years is 2887. Seems like he missed at least 32 ninety day reports...................

In one of the pics he's got a big ol' stick in his hand. Most other countries he'd be tasered, shot, or wrestled to the ground with a knee in his back.

What did you expect them to do, give him a six-pack of Leo and tell him to carry on his merry way?
