Daily News Thai Caption: Fake "sick" visa

Region 3 chief of immigration Pol Maj-Gen Manat Sriwongsa said that his deputies investigated after receiving information from immigration in Nakhon Nayok, central Thailand.

This concerned an Indonesian woman called Adelia, 22, who had previously applied for an extension to her visa.

Immigration's so called "smart car" managed to pick her up in Suthisan in the Thai capital Bangkok.

It was found that she was on overstay from November 24th.

She had a stamp in her passport from Tak in the north west that aroused suspicions.

It was for an extension based on medical grounds.

Contact with Tak showed that the stamp was a fake.

Further investigations revealed that the lady had paid an Indonesian man 5,000 baht to get the fake stamp and that she was not sick at all.

She has been detained and will be prosecuted, reported Daily News

Fairly obvious to me why she prefers to be here:

Apparently they have a gizmo, called a camera which can take your picture and by the latest miracle of the internet can connect to the immigration database?????

Well they do take your photo on arrival now, so anything's possible, but...TIT!????

Edit: They then just have to look at when you were stamped in and which address you put on your TM6. Should be easy, even for the boys in brown!?????

Not really.

There is no TM 6 anymore (and some people lied anyway). The information should come from the TM 30, but as we know from other threads here, many house owners do not fill in the TM 30.

Then sell the resulting pics to voyeurs online!!

Why bother with the car? There are tens of thousands of CCTV cameras around the country. Why not simply link those to face recognition software and compare with immigration mugshots and database of entries/exits from the country. There are several companies providing software (and hardware) for such systems, most notably NEC, if there's concern about Chinese companies, where several vendors offer very good tracking and face recognition systems.

It's a BMW.  It gives them a lot of social status.

You are sort of correct. They are using CCTV in Phuket if they want to find somebody.
