Drugs to treat mange for dogs ?

Hi, i would like to help the soi dogs affected by the terrible mange. Could you advice me a drug inexpensive to help them please ?

I usually buy Nexgard from my vet.

 

A single dose for dogs up to 50kg costs 380 baht.

 

However, I cut it into four equal pieces so it can treat four dogs up to 12kg each.

 

Best practice is to repeat the treatment after four weeks to ensure 100% effectiveness.

 

I've done this for various dogs in my neighbourhood.

 

Are you close to a vet who may have cheaper medicine available?

You can use Idectine ,the injection is the best ,I can get a 100 cc bottle for about 300 baht,it is a Thai /Chines rip off, but it works ,been using it for a few years now ,you need to jab the animal on day 0, then again at 14 days ,for bad cases they  might need another jab.

That is the easy bit ,can you catch the dogs and will they let you, or who ever will do the injection, be injected .

I think they are a powder form ??you add to food ,that will kill the worms in the stomach/intestine,I would have my doubts if it will cure mange.

Coat dogs liberally with engine oil. Old oil is OK. The parasite needs to breath. Oil coating will prevent that. 

 

Don't do it to a house pet????

I guess you are talking of the local soi dogs?

Paying for neutering and spaying would be kind to them and their never ending future, half-starved, mange and illness ridden soi dog progeny.

If its your dog/s, then some of the meds mentioned by others, and, using Neem soap will support good coat growth and skin health ... after a few washes over about month, and with ongoing washes. 
is a great product for all dogs. We use it, and have for many years both in Oz and here in LOS.

Ticks hate Neem, so you get good long-term preventative effect and if accompanied with tick skin applied treatment liquids they're much safer from tick-harm and death. Fleas die instantly on contact (no time to migrate up to the head to avoid the dog washes usually used).

Many years ago there was a mange ridden dog in our area. Hardly any hair left.

I saw that it started sleeping on a pile of discarded cement bags. Incredibly, its hair grew back and it looked quite healthy.

So maybe cement dust is a good cure.

As marty147 has said - Nexgard would be the easiest way to treat these dogs as it is palatable & readily taken by dogs. It is not cheap.

Ivermectin administered at 200micrograms/kg is effective - but needs to be injected. - so probably not practical.

Vinegar, engine oil (!?) etc as topical washes are not likely to be effective - although if the dogs have demodectic mange rather than sarcoptic mange it may help. Are the dogs itchy?  If so it will be Sarcoptes.

Demodectic mange looks bad, but the dog is generally not itchy. This is easier to treat, and sometimes just improving the dogs general health, and hence immune status , can help it recover.

You could be right there, it stops wood from rotting, ants hate it. Dogs like to sleep on concrete floors, soo..........

I use a mix of vegetable oil with sulphur (yellow powder) for the skin. And Ivermectin oral!!!
And this works very well.

thanks, how many ml do you inject by kilo ? Only 1 injection or several every month ?

I not inject it. I give it inside the food. If you give dry food, give a half hour before feeding some water inside and just before feeding ivermectin.

I give around 1ml to our 30-35kg dogs once the month or after we found ticks again.

For the first time you give better the half and look how it work or that the dog not get bad side effects. My dogs never had. Our Thai dogs not too.

I give our dogs 1cc one probably weighs no more than 20 kg .

For cattle, it is 1cc per 50 kg,so 1cc for a dog might seem a lot ,but never had a problem .
