I didn't say or think most people need the space of a big tower case. In fact, most users don't need it.

But it seems for many users size and weight equal power.

If they received a big heavy computer, they don't even have to switch it on to be convinced it's a very powerful machine. Really.

I think the realities of living in Thailand impact case/form factor choices.  Many members here live in smaller condo/apartment units where space is at a premium.  A tower unit usually requires a dedicated computer workspace in a fixed location.  Mini-computers like NUCs and monitors are easy to put on small portable desks or stands which are easier to tuck away when not in use.. With the rise of video streaming,  NUCs can also fit comfortably close to the TV, negating the need for long HDMI cables running across floors.

IHAVECPU is pretty popular with Thais.

 

Both of these would be BTO and "remote" purchases.

When I started living in Thailand, I had a 40 something sqm apartment, and several big PCs. Let's put the priorities in the correct order! ????

Just found this thread, but just want to add some info, FYI...

 

I'm preparing to build a really super high end PC (RTX 4090 + i9-13900K). This is my first PC in over 10 years, as I've been exclusively Mac since then. I'm still keeping the Macs, but planning to use the PC for VR gaming and AI video processing, stuff the Mac just isn't ready for yet.

 

By coincidence I am also making a brief visit to the USA next month, so I thought, great, I'll just buy all the parts there. After comparing prices+sales tax at Amazon, B&H, Best Buy with Lazada, it's actually considerably cheaper to purchase the RTX 4090 in Thailand than in the USA! Like at a minimum at least 5000 baht, or more, depending on the brand you want. And there is PLENTY of stock, whereas online retailers in the USA often don't have any in stock at all.

 

Plus, the other components I require such as motherboard, CPU, CPU cooler, DRAM, M.2 storage are all readily available here in Thailand and at comparable prices to the USA. It doesn't seem that long ago (but I suppose 10+ years is quite long) where literally all electronics had to be purchased overseas because it was either unavailable in Thailand or was sold at extortionate prices.

I remember the time when you needed at least 3 new PCs within 10 years to be at least 1/2 up to date...

386, 486, Pentium...

And let's not forget the Voodoo card (with 4MB RAM) - which nobody I knew could afford at that time.
