Scott Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 A giant aquarium containing a million litres of water in the lobby of the Radisson Blu in Berlin has burst, flooding the hotel and nearby streets. The "AquaDom" - home to 1,500 tropical fish - is 14m high (46 ft) and was described as the largest free-standing cylindrical aquarium in the world. Two people were injured by glass. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-63996982 1
Popular Post KhunBENQ Posted December 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted December 16, 2022 Having lived in Berlin for decades I have visited the place only twice or so. Sure it was impressive but you need trust in the quality of the construction. Similar to the spectacular aquariums where you walk in glass tunnels with masses of water and sea life above. 3
Popular Post ozimoron Posted December 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted December 16, 2022 I knew we shouldn't have bought that glasspecker fish. 1 6

Tropposurfer Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 You'd be snaffling up those nicer edible species, popping them in the old desginer Burkenstock bag and straight home for a nice tempura batter job ????
Elkski Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 Wonder if this was a hit? I'm sure there are many soft targets like this.

There's a huge difference between a relatively small air filled cylinder submerged in water - where all the pressure is pushing inwards against a convex surface - and a tall, much larger tube filled with water - where all the pressure is pushing outwards against a concave surface. It's the same reason why large dams are built curving towards the water, and why archways don't collapse. 2

Police have already said not looking for anyone. Berlin AquaDom aquarium: Police not seeking suspects over explosion https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-64010677
