Yet these "migrants" can freely enter British territorial waters without express permission?   Anyway,  I said just to block their entry. Not to necessarily enter French waters. But if the French are unwilling to enforce their own laws, they can expect consequences.

Yes, they are human beings. With responsibility for themselves. If they deliberately put themselves in a dangerous position, they cannot expect to be rewarded for it.  If they drown due to their own deliberate actions, so be it. That is on them and not anyone else.  How about returning them to safe harbor in the country they left?

Oh, so you think a sea blockade would work?  That would be a lot of military personnel covering a lot of territory for a very long time and still those boats will slip by.

Conversely, you can allow them in when they land, screen them and if they have a claim (which most will not), let them remain.  The difficulty is that many of them come from countries where they cannot be safely returned -- and in some cases they can't be returned at all.

I agree, which is where the Falklands comes in useful. If they knew they'd be going there if can't be returned to home country IMO the number attempting to cross would be significantly less.

Surely no one is claiming that a person without a valid visa should be allowed to choose where they live on British territory?

Or use radar to find the boats crossing and intercept them.

...by the way, what do you do with the "many" that cannot be safely returned?  It seems that claim validity is irrelevant if they can mostly stay anyway.
