Thai immigration chief says no truth to social media rumors his men are bent - thanks Chuwit

BANGKOK: -- Thai Rath reported comments made by Thailand's chief of immigration Pol Lt-Gen Phakphoomphiphat Sajjaphan at RTP HQ yesterday.

 

The chief said there was absolutely no truth to rumors circulating online that immigration was pocketing Visa on Arrival money.

 

These are 15 day visas that cost 2,500 baht.

 

He said that with tourism picking up these visas are usually dealt with by companies online that get 500 baht for each applicant.

 

The rest, 2,000 baht, goes to the Finance Ministry, he stated. It does not go into IB funds.

 

The chief also addressed concerns circulating that Chinese people mixed up in the Jin Ling pub investigation had been let go back to China for money.

 

This is untrue he said adding "We don't do that sort of thing".

 

He said that deportation orders and the like were all being handled by the courts.

 

He admitted that 180 suspects had been allowed to return home while 37 more were still under investigation.

 

One of the main whistleblowers in this saga has been former politician and TV presenter Chuwit Kamolwisit.

 

Phakphoomphiphat thanked Chuwit for his work on the case saying it was important that his comments were taken seriously as they could reflect badly on the immigration bureau.

Either assisting hand holding applicants quite legally or more often with bribes to circumvent the law. I would prefer it if they took money off people over the counter for doing the same thing, just cut out the visa middle man.

even here on this forum there're members who insist that agents 'convincing' the IO to not look too closely at the 800,000 seasoning in what appears to be a bank passbook is totally not a bribe

I do not agree, if that happened, well just think about it. Imagine IO's having the freedom just to charge what they like for all the different services, visa's, 90 day reporting etc. Any agent I have used has always been honest and fair except one.

I'm not a supporter of corruption, but if anyone has used corruption on me I will do so back if I think I will get away with it.

ie I do not agree with motorbikes over about 250cc not being allowed on some carriageway, so I always have 400Bt in my pocket in case a policeman stops me, done it a good few times over the years and only been stopped once, and it ended with a handshake.

They may not be pocketing visa on arrival money. They don't need to. His people are more bent that Uri Geller's spoon. We all know that and he knows that too. This is mere deflection. They earn a fortune. So does he. I have and immigration officers refer me to a visa agent, who in turn gives them their fee. 

 

Denial is in their blood. This is a bit like trying to convince us the RTP are straight arrows. Ha! Sorry. We don't buy nonsense.

Well he did specifically say 'Visa on Arrival' money which is just at the airport and does not involve agents (as far as I know).

Visa on arrival is now 30 days since 1st October 2022.

It costs 2000b.
