Hardly "measures to welcome visitors" - instead, a return to the insanity

Thank you, I totally agree -"Amazing Thailand - the hub of U-turns"

For general reference, across the border in Cambodia where ALL foreign tourists are welcome without any entry restrictions other than an e-visa or visa on entry.

"The PM stated “Cambodia does not require Chinese people to do anything, just to come as normal tourists.”

So any precautions against covid should be dropped?  Yeah great idea.
Then if people get Covid and have to go to a doctor or admitted to a hospital.  They will do the usual whining about the medical costs being so high.  Because they either have little or no health insurance.  And blame their own country and the rest of the world for their own shortcomings.

Not quite. If you need to pass a PCR test to fly out from Thailand (based on the entry requirements of the country you'll be flying to), you'll need Covid insurance for Thailand, to cover you in case you'll fail the test.

It will be a mess.

How do they know which country I will fly out to, unless they make onward tickets mandatory?

From the news article to which a link is given in the OP:

“In case that some countries require their arrivals to pass RT-PCR tests for COVID-19 before trips, such travelers will be required to have health insurance. This will benefit them if they are infected and must stay in Thailand until their recovery. Therefore, tourists should have their health insurance before visiting Thailand,” the [Thai] health minister said.

My question: Does China require that outbound passengers pass a Covid-19 test before travelling?

Not currently it seems. My wife (Thai) flew from China to Thailand on Jan 2nd and no test was needed. Nothing really except filling out a Covid history form when leaving China.

The measures are:

  1. All visitors must have received at least two doses of COVID-19 vaccine before their arrival
  2. All visitors should take out health insurance coverage, which includes COVID-19, before their departure for Thailand
  3. All visitors should wear face masks while travelling on public transport in Thailand and in public places and take rapid antigen tests if they develop COVID-like symptoms.
  4. Visitors should postpone their visits to Thailand if they develop a respiratory disease.

Therefore, we have one mandatory requirement (must) and three optional recommendations (should)

Hence, China won't send their unvaccinated people to Thailand.

Yes, I suppose so. There is a very large Chinese ex-pat community already and with all their tourists now able to flock back to the hotel/casino complexes for gambling, there will be MANY Chinese, especially in Sihanoukville!

Right! I was kind of half joking, but makes sense since the Chinese love gambling!

Which begs the question why do so many go to Thailand, where gambling is 'illegal"

You're right of course, but I don't think the status of "illegal" actually matters to  (ahem) people of influence! ????

Anyway....an illegal is a sick bird! :sorry:

I'll fly to BKK from EU on coming Friday. I can't get reasonable travel insurance where I am now.

Can somebody recommend where, and how, to buy it by the Net? Maybe from Thai company?

I want it in case they require it at the entry. Thank you!

PS. I got 2 shots and certificate so that's OK.
