Several classified documents from President Joe Biden’s time as vice president were discovered last fall in a private office, Biden’s attorneys acknowledged Monday.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has asked the US attorney in Chicago to investigate the matter, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN, and congressional Republicans are also taking notice.

Biden’s lawyers say they found the government materials in November while closing out a Washington, DC-based office – the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement – that Biden used as part of his relationship with the University of Pennsylvania, where he was an honorary professor from 2017 to 2019.

If criminality is found, then indict.

 

The criminal holding, withholding or concealment of classified documents should always be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

 

If criminality is not found, make a clear unequivocal statement to that effect.

You could make it up if the FBI issued a subpoena only for Biden to move the documents and refuse to return them. Or you could make it up if the FBI then had to raid the office to retrieve them only to then be accused of planting them in the first place. Perhaps it would then seem totally unbelievable if Biden would delay the investigation as much as possible by engaging a special council or issuing wild statements that the FBI is being weaponized against him. There are many ways to make this up.

 

However the fact is that it was Biden's own lawyers that discovered them in a locked closet and then immediately notified the National Archives & Department of Justice.

Obviously, he should do just like his predecessor and say they are declassified.  The difference is, Biden can actually do it because he IS president. 

Problem is the term Classified could be something as innocent as weather reports. It could be a Top Secret folder with cooking recipes inside. Who knows.

Exactly.  There are very little similarities between this situation and that of the former disgraced Prez.  But the Republicans will spin this to make it seem like it was....or even worse.  Regardless, Trump will get nailed for some other criminal act.  It's simply in his nature.

Trump's big problem with the documents is that he failed to return them when requested, and lied about not having more. That's called obstruction of justice.

 

All the whataboutisms coming from the trump cult mean nothing unless they can show obstruction of justice.

What is important and legal is that when the classified documents are found, they will need to hand back to the archive voluntarily without need for legal coercion.

My understanding is they were found at an institution that study’s foreign policy to imply that Biden himself left the docs isent nessarley true they could have been forgotten by someone studying at that facility the main point to me is the difference in the way they were handled

He apparently didn't willfully remove them after he lost authority to hold them and isn't asking for them to be returned.

A person who is familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it publicly said Attorney General Merrick Garland asked U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois John Lausch to review the matter after the Archives referred the issue to the department. Lausch is one of the few U.S. attorneys to be held over from former President Donald Trump’s administration.

Actually not, It goes to intent. The National Archives negotiated with Trump's people for months before a return was arranged. It turned out that his representative falsely asserted that all documents had been returned.  Clearly, Trump knew that he was holding documents that violated the rules and had his people deny it. It was only after further negotiations had failed that the National Archives was called in by the Justice Dept. All Trump had to do was comply with the National Archives request and this matter would never have been assigned to the Justice Dept. It's clear that there's a very strong case against him for obstruction of Justice.

Whereas in the Biden case, it's not at all clear that it was Biden who took these documents.

Who was caught? The discovery by the President's personnel attorneys during packing on November 2, 2022 and on the same day, the WH''s Counsel Office notified the National Archives. The Archives took possesion of the materials the following morning. By the way, Biden don't stay at the Penn Biden Center and the FBI was not involved in retrieving the documents besides the volume of documents of varying classification degrees that were willfully kept by Trump. Doubt the stark difference meant anything to any cultist.

Oh, but / and it begs the question why the Chinese anonymously donated $54M to the UPenn, where Biden kept an office there until 2020, yet again you see the endless connections between Biden(s) and China.

This warrants serious investigation and likely will be pursued by congress. I take this to be just another "sign" that the decision makers want to exit Biden, as he's not wanted by his own party. It strikes me as odd that CNN is even covering Biden's latest news of his suspicious actions instead of running cover for him. Maybe Biden will be done soon.
