A sinful monk, on pilgrimage, was caught having sex with a widow under a long-handled umbrella in a sparse forest. The monk confessed that he is in love with the woman; and invited her to have a chat and an alcoholic drink with him and could not resist being physical with her.

On 30 June 2007, at 1 AM, Pol.Lt. Col.Theerasak Jaroensri, Investigator, Pattaya, was notified that a pilgrimage monk and a woman were unabashedly drinking alcohol and having sex on Soi Polaris, behind Batman Building, Moo 10, Pattaya South, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi. A police team rushed to investigate.

At the scene, under the spreading branches of a tree with some light from an oil lamp, officials looked through and saw the shadow of a man and a woman making love under a long-handled umbrella. They shouted to them to stop immediately and to come out. The officials were shocked to see an inebriated man with a shaved head wearing only a saffron cloth on his shoulder. There was also a woman under the umbrella, who immediately grabbed her clothes to cover up her body. Police asked them get dressed and investigated further.

Police located the man’s Monk I.D. book. His real name was Mr. Roe Phonork (49) from Thaibamroong, Purgmai, Konkaen Province. His religious name was Pra Roe Suphawaroe. He had been a monk for nine years.

The woman, a widow and construction worker was Mrs. Wanna Gaew-Keaw, (43). She said that she had observed Pra Roe coming out asking for food in the same Soi for about 2 months and developed affection for him. Apparently, the feeling was mutual. On the evening in question, Pra Roe asked her to come and have an alcoholic drink with him. They both got drunk and ended up becoming intimate. They both acknowledged the immorality of what they did. Pra Roe will disrobe and he and Mrs. Wanna will live as husband and wife. .

Police took both of them to make a record at the South Pattaya Police Station. This type of behaviour does damage to the Buddhist Religion. Police immediately took Pra Roe to Chaimongkol Temple, South Pattaya, Banglamung, Chonburi, so he could be disrobed and no longer be a monk.

I think it's good for them to have him be disrobed, but just let the poor guy have a life now.
