Pain and fever relief medications are running out at some pharmacies in Bangkok, particularly in areas where there is a high concentration of tourists from China, according to a random survey conducted by Thai PBS reporters.

Nawat Chevapruek, a pharmacist at a drug store in the Huai Khwang district, said that the tourists are buying so much pain relief balm, plasters and other fever and pain medications that they are having to replenish stock more often.

He thinks that some buy the medications for relatives in China or to resell back home.

Oh dear....you have to feel for them.

Safe as houses in China, hardly any covid......then come on holiday to Thailand and suddenly get infected.

I guess they need to stay away from the Western tourist areas.

We were warned this was going to happen, it was all over the Thai news a month ago.  People were warned to stock up on basic meds as there was a shortage in China and once the Chinese were let out their number one purchase would be meds.

For the Thai government, as long as the foreign currencies flooding in, the don't care how, who and what being sold and what price ultimately be paid for all of this...

It's not just meds. They clear the shelves in the supermarkets too. I was told they can sell everything back home it and it not only pays for their holiday, but makes a nice profit.

Just before Christmas in CentralWorld, I saw them buying handbags in a store. Maybe twenty or thirty each. packing them into those big striped nylon bags. Video calling, and showing what was on the shelves, so customers could choose.

Must be good business.

That’s just great.  Now if someone needs the medications locally I guess they are just out of luck if not available.

The Chinese have always bought that stuff. It's all the back and muscle relief pads and things like that. Before Covid, 7/11 near me was always full of Chinese tourists that had just got off the tour bus at the hotel, all straight in there and buying up all that stuff and the balm.

Not the first time for this. Remember about 10 years ago, there was a baby formula scandal in China, with some kids being poisoned by tainted formula? They all "flooded the zone" into Hong Kong and bought the country dry. Serious riots and anti-Chinese mobs were taking to the streets.
