Places To Buy Baby Gear

Featured Replies

My husband and I will be moving to Bangkok for 5 months this fall. We have a 13 month old and don't want to lug a ton of gear for just a 5 month stay. We are just students so we don't have a lot of money, but maybe we could purchase some things new and then sell them before we leave. Specifically, we need:

playpen or other mini bed (we'll be living in a tiny 1 BR)

pool floats/toys

other toys

clothing

We've both lived in Bangkok previously and know the area pretty well. I'd just like to know specific names/places of stores or online sites where we could find these things.

Thanks so much, any help is appreciated.

Lug it, you will be much happier if you take as much as you can pack. You can find most everything here but its not cheap and the quality stuff is being imported. If money is no object then never mind you can find everything here that you would in the states or in the uk.

I agree. Good quality imported goods are at the same price as in the West/Japan. The Emporium, Central Plaza, Siam Paragon...all carry almost anything from the West.

Simple things (without moving parts) and cheap strollers and similar are readilly and cheaply available at any Lotus/Tesco. Not worth flying them over from UK.

I just bought a cot for my baby. It has an aluminium frame and mosquito net. It also rocks but has a lock to keep it still if you chose. I paid 1700 baht in Tesco Lotus. I think that's good value and much easier than bringing one from abroad.

Yeah, that's the item I'm really keen on because those don't fit inside a suitcase. Still, just for fun I'd like to know some places to check out baby gear. So far this is what I know of:

Lotus

something Brown Farm something ?? - where is it?

what other places?

Thanks.

Mothercare (stand alone shop in Thong Lo or within Empo,) Central dept. stores, BAMBI classifieds. I found all baby equipment to be really expensive here, if I bought anything made for the local market it was eitehr bright pink and synthetic or downright dangerous. Imported stuff is jolly expensive and for that reason I would check out the BAMBI as I suggested and as so many people are leaving at this time of year, you may well get a bargain.

Good luck

There's a small Brown Farm outlet in Central Chitlom, maybe in other Central dept stores too. They also have a larger shop in Central World shopping mall (formerly World Trade Centre) on the 5th floor (I think). This outlet had stuff on sale when the one in Central dept store hadn't. There are other baby stores there too.

Toys R Us are in Bangkok - sure you can google to find out where - but there's definitely one in the Carrefour at Sukhumvit Soi 26/Rama 4 intersection. Carrefour itself will have stuff and there's a Tesco Lotus opposite.
