Phuket is seeing more activities from tourists, as tourism is now at 50% compared to pre-pandemic levels, according to the director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Office in Phuket.

Ms. Nantasiri Ronsiri Thursday said that the number of visitors to Phuket from January to December 2022 totaled 9.26 million, with 53.6% being domestic tourists and 46.4% being international tourists, pumping into Phuket 233.38 billion baht in tourism revenue throughout the year.

“Before the pandemic, Phuket had a tourism revenue of 400 billion baht,” said Nantasiri, “And now we are at 200 billion baht, so that means a 50% recovery.”

It's not unusual for people to be war hawks and talk the tough talk so long as they aren't the ones doing the fighting. I guess a lot of those young Russian guys got medical exemptions for bone spurs.

I guess not many countries accepting Russian tourists at the moment

have to escape the draft from their lunatic leader somehow !

Complete garbage... they have no idea about domestic numbers and even less idea about how much they spent.

they should not be allowed to enter Thailand.  send them back so that they can protest against Putins war if they will not fight.  this is what we did in the sixties

I spoke with a St Petersburg lass friend who has lived in Switzerland for about 5 years (since marrying a Swiss guy). She's a journalist (an award winning one too). Kat was one of many targeted by Putin and his FSB or whatever his neo-KGB is called. Kat cannot return even if she wanted to now as she would be killed.

She did return a year or so back before the war started and had to run for her life as the escalation of suppression in Russia had gone off the scale since her last visit to family and her home in St Petersburg. Kat is a European journo and wrote/writes stories from all over both East and West Europe for years.

Kat told me that many many Russians are simply apathetic and won't stand up against the Putin despot. Others love him and yearn for a neo-Stalinist ultra-nationalist nation and re-annexing of Europe to make The great Neo-Czarist Russia similar to the Soviet days but capitalist/totalitarian. Others are simply cowered under the brutal weight of Putins Russia.

The exodus of many that we have seen and hear about in the Press, she says, are simply running away to not fight, to avoid facing what Putin and his cronies (aided and abetted by a totally corrupt system of oligarchical funding and corporate raiding) a 'head in the sand' mentality if you will.

Kat also told me the regression and complete control Putin and his henchmen have over the country now is so tight, so all encompassing that there is NO free speech, NO ability to peacefully protect or hold rallies without being beaten, shot, arrested, and if not then then later taken away to prison/gulags.

The Press is completely controlled by Putin and any descent is forbidden and crushed immediately and brutally. Ultra-nationalist spy and inform on more moderate people.

I'm sure that protesting made you feel good, but it ultimately it had no effect. The US simply lost and withdrew from Vietnam, which had nothing at all to do with protests. Protesting against Putin will have no effect other than people being thrown in jail or disappearing. In Thailand, all protests have done is bring the military onto the streets rather than bring change - except to install military governments.

Bad news for Phuket but good news for the rest of Thailand if they are concentrated in one area.

You say: "after purchasing an Education Visa to live in peace for a year and go to class twice a week"

So do you they bought it from an 'agent', or they went thru the correct channels. Class twice a week seems a bit iffy?

Of course its not my business, but asking for a friend!

You can purchase/buy an education visa? I'm shocked, don't you need to prove that you are going regularly to class and are actually learning?

They bought it, agent I assume he said around 15,000 Hua Hin - Phuket 50-60,000, 2 classes a week ( they chose English language ), corruption at its best...

Think you need to stop watching documentaries about this era in American history and start reading. Now first up I'm not an American fan but history is history. Fact 1 America had all but destroyed the North ability to fight before they left 2 years prior. Fact 2. It took the North 2 years to rebuild its infrastructure ability to fight. Fact 3. The corruption and lack of will in the south was the main reason for the defeat. Quite possibly because for years they were used as a secondary force with the USA and some Australian troops doing the heavy lifting. It is just utter nonsense that USA was defeated by the North, America was defeated by anti war protests and feelings back home. Even the disastrous Afghanistan was not a defeat but a severe ineptitude of the US government what a disaster they caused.

I am sure you are correct on this, no surprises then, business as usual?

More than likely Putin will lock some up when some return as deserters.

Looks like it, I thought Big Joke was to straighten out the place............

Here comes the "Russian Hatred" on steroids.  Very sad but not unexpected.  It's right behind "Chinese Hatred."

Live and let live.  Most people are not a reflection of their own country's Geo-politics.

I would respond further, but it's off topic and would probably be removed by the mods.

the anti war protest in america had a great impact on popular opinion.  as Lyndon Johnson has been famously quoted as saying  "once you loose Walter Conckrite you have lost the war"

for sale in red square.

I had the good fortune of being able to share a taxi ride from Bangkok Phuket hospital to Lotus's in Phuket town, with an attractive, and judging by her dress and jewellery, reasonably wealthy Russian woman, and we got talking about the invasion of Ukraine and what she said was enlightening for me!

She said that this invasion/war was crazy because many families, like hers, had mixed Russian and Ukrainian relatives, whereby some of her lineage were Russian, whereas others were Ukrainian, so taking sides was damn near impossible, and she said it was dividing the country and families, ALTHOUGH she did say that any dissent was pounced upon immediately, so being able to come to Thailand for her was a good way out.

She didn't say she was for or against Putin, but she did say she was against the invasion – – take from that what you will.
