Highways Department loses property worth over ฿30m through theft

The Highways Department sustained more than 30 million baht through the theft of equipment in 2022, about 13 million baht more than the previous year.

 

The most targeted items by thieves include electrical wire, traffic signal equipment, transformers, steel mesh and W-beam guard rails.

 

According to the department, electrical wire worth about 13 million baht was stolen last year. Losses from the theft oftransformers is estimated at 8.2 million baht, while steel worth2.2 million baht was taken, along with 1.5 million baht in W-beam guard rails and traffic signal equipment worth 1.5 million baht.

I had to think for a while as to what a w beam is.........Then realised it is what is known in the rest of the world as Armco....:cheesy:

Part of the problem is down to contractors and their inability to do the maths.  Vast quantities are over ordered for a job then left lying about until someone succumbs to temptation.
