That sounds more like an issue with the owner than the animal.

Agreed - through lack of being able to train their pets owners are often more a problem than dogs.

Strays though are a nuisance and so many suffer unnecessarily because nothing is done about them.

Owning dogs in a huge city without accommodation with decent garden space  seems selfish to me.

I was in a restaurant today... (at K-Village Bangkok), its a popular spot for people to take their dogs.... while I was eating an owner let their dog cr@p on the floor, then used a back to pick up the poop !!!

Well done..  But... W.TF are people doing taking dogs to the shops ???.... when did this become a thing ?

Dog lovers ???.... No.. they are not, the want a dog it doesn’t mean they love them.

My Wife & I loves dogs, which is why we won’t have one in a house with a small yard, there’s not enough space to run around and we are too busy to look after any dog as well as we should.

Dogs like many animals have their own unique personalities.  A properly trained dog knows how to behave and wants to please his master.  They last two dogs I had were rescued from indifferent owners.  They were respectful and very good with children and knew not to be rough with toddlers.  Both lived long, happy lives.

I miss them.

Crazy cat & dog woman honoured, better feed the dogs on the chocolate. According to her:

'Dogs are no different from human beings in that they will feel sad and a sense of loneliness if they are neglected by their owners, says Kawiporn Vinijthaopatom, the founder of CHSAThai Stray Animal Shelter'

No, they just want feeding, they have no human attributes.

Did your mum not warm your Farley's Rusk up this morning?

You will often see reports of batty old biddies hauled into court and fined as well as banned form owning animals for their weird obsession. Too often it ends up with far too many animals living in squalor and malnourished with filth and sometimes even rotting carcasses here and there, so much for doing good and having a big heart. It's almost always lonely old women. Not claiming this is the case with this person, but such efforts would be better directed to kids in need rather than stray pests.

It is highly debatable whether or not there is any sort of merit in feeding and prolonging the lives of stray dogs.

I guess you need to be a Buddhist to understand compassion, or maybe a Christian too.

Karma is a complicated subject that Westerners often don't understand.

True. But karma is very complex. Interpreting it at face value is comparable to taking the bible literally. It takes great wisdom to understand truth.

So, is there actual merit in feeding stray dogs, which leads to prolonging their lives, which leads to a multitude of attacks on children and other innocents? Does that lead to good karma, or is it a form of myopia?

It was pointed out to me, in McLeod Ganj, that beggars are welcome as it allows you to 'improve' your own Karma, not theirs.

Do you kill venomous snakes? Many Thais do, and I tend to agree with this.

Soi dogs don't attack people.

Feeding soi dogs leads to good karma, BS - it leads to more soi dogs, and that's a fact, no mumbo jumbo karma involved.

Mumbo Jumbo? Do you not believe in Karma?

used to not believe certainly religious beliefs until I met the Dalai Lama in his home in India. I shook his hand an had a spiritual experience. In the retreat I visited, I saw Karma in action and things I never would have believed.

I took part in a mediation with a senior Tibetan lama. There was a Q&A session where a young Israeli girl insulted some Buddhist monks in the town of McLeod Ganj who ate meat. She said they 'were like pigs'.

10 minutes later we all meditated and she fell over and started grunting in a sleep. It was bizarre, instant Karma. The same Lama who had never met Westerners couldn't believe most didn't believe in reincarnation.

I remember this every time I hear Westerners ignorantly say Karma is not real. Remember most of the people in the world believe and understand Karma, you are the minority.
