Politics NACC Launches Investigation Into Paetongtarn Shinawatra
Thailand's suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra leaves from Government House as she takes the oath of office as Minister of Culture in Bangkok, Thailand, Thursday, July 3, 2025. (AP Photo/Sakchai Lalit) Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is launching an investigation into Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra for alleged serious ethical breaches. The probe arises from an audio clip allegedly capturing discussions between Paetongtarn and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen about border disputes. The NACC's unanimous decision marks a critical move after a complaint accused Paetongtarn of violating ethical standards. Chairman Suchart Trakulkasemsook and Commissioner Prapas Kongied will lead the investigation. This action follows a letter from a group of senators dated June 19, urging the Senate President to forward accusations against Paetongtarn to the NACC. Senate President Mongkol Surasajja initiated the complaint that has now escalated into a formal probe. The senators demand clarity on whether Paetongtarn abused her power or seriously breached ethical guidelines. The investigation could have significant political implications, potentially affecting her leadership and the country's diplomatic relations. The audio clip at the centre of the controversy reportedly contains sensitive conversations that could impact Thailand's international relations with Cambodia. Both domestic and regional media have been abuzz with reactions, speculating on the clip's authenticity and its potential repercussions. The investigation highlights ongoing tensions and the importance of maintaining ethical standards in governmental affairs. The NACC's inquiry will be closely watched, as it may shape the political landscape for months to come. Adapted by ASEAN Now from TNA-MCOT 2025-07-15 -

90 days reporting
When you exit Thailand the 90 day count stops. Upon reentry your count starts day of entry. So next report due date is 89 days after entry. You will not receive a reminder email. You need to report in person. After that first in person report you can then do online reporting. -

Crime Jealous Man Stabs Partner Before She Leaps from Car to Escape in Prachinburi
Picture courtesy of Daily News. A 43-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after being brutally attacked and stabbed by her jealous partner in a moving car in Prachinburi province. The victim managed to escape the vehicle and seek help from local residents, leading to the eventual arrest of the suspect. The shocking incident unfolded on the afternoon of 13 July when rescue teams from the Bu Phram Subdistrict Administrative Organisation responded to reports of a stabbing on Route 304 near the entrance to Verona at Na Di district. Upon arrival, they found Ms Prathana, a resident of Nakhon Ratchasima province, suffering from three stab wounds to her abdomen, a serious laceration above her left eyebrow and multiple bruises across her body. She was immediately rushed to Na Di Hospital for emergency treatment. Nearby, authorities discovered an abandoned silver Toyota car bearing Bangkok registration plates. Initial investigations revealed that the attacker was the victim’s long-term partner, Mr Anon 38, who had driven to her home in Wang Nam Khiao district, Nakhon Ratchasima, in an attempt to reconcile after the breakdown of their relationship. According to police, Mr Anon forcibly pulled Ms Prathana into his car and drove her towards his home in Na Di. However, a fierce argument erupted during the journey. The vehicle stopped in Ban Wang Hin Soi 2, where Mr Anon reportedly stabbed the victim multiple times in a fit of rage. He then continued driving until he encountered traffic congestion caused by roadworks. Seizing the opportunity, the injured woman bravely opened the car door and fled, screaming for help. Fortunately, plainclothes police officers happened to be passing on a motorcycle and quickly intervened. Meanwhile, the suspect abandoned the car and escaped into nearby woodland. Later that evening, officers from Wang Khon Daeng Police Station apprehended Mr Anon walking near the entrance of a military ranger camp in the area. He was taken into custody and admitted to stabbing his partner, citing relationship issues and frustration after she refused his pleas for reconciliation following nearly a decade together. Mr Anon remains in police custody and is facing charges related to attempted murder and assault. Authorities have confirmed that he will be prosecuted according to the law.
