Two family members - a mother and nine year old child - were found with their necks slashed outside a house in central Thailand.

The child died on the way to hospital, the mother is in a critical condition, reported Sanook.

The mother is believed to have been responsible.

Pol Capt Amnuay Phoonphon of the Phraphuttabaht had been alerted to a stabbing incident at the house in Saraburi, central Thailand on Sunday.

Officials found a horrific bloodbath.

A boy called Jessada was barely alive by the front door.

His mother Ariya, 40, was out in the street covered in blood.

A six inch kitchen knife was recovered in the road.

Relatives took both victims to the local hospital but the boy died before getting there. The mother was transferred to Lopburi Hospital in a critical state.

Udon, 33, the husband of the mother, said he was in another room to his wife and child.

The child rushed in and he thought he had just been sick until he noticed his neck and the blood.

His wife had had health problems and had asked would he be able to look after the child if she wasn't there anymore. She'd been off work for two weeks.

The grandfather of the boy said he knew his daughter-in-law had had health problems. It happened just after 4 am. He said that his son Udon and his wife loved each other very much.

There was no evidence of theft.

Police said the mother had a physical disability related to her arms and legs and had expressed a wish to die.

They think the mother is likely to have slashed her own neck and that of her son.

Investigations continue.
